Jarryd Hayne will be back playing in the NRL
I REMAIN confident Jarryd Hayne will be back playing NRL, writes PHIL ROTHFIELD. But where will he end up?
NRL
Don't miss out on the headlines from NRL. Followed categories will be added to My News.
I’VE been saying all along Jarryd Hayne wouldn’t last in the NFL.
That he’d be back playing NRL for the Sydney Roosters.
We were half right — and could soon be 100 per cent right.
For as much as you admire Hayne for having a go and chasing his dream in the US it became obvious last year it was a challenge even too great for the former Parramatta Eels superstar.
When he was dropped to the practice squad midway through last season, every NFL franchise had the opportunity to grab him in a 48-hour window.
They sure knew about him because of the media blitz across the globe.
Yet no-one wanted him.
Hayne now says he’s decided to have a crack at the Olympics with the Fijian rugby sevens team.
This is just a couple of months after he told Karl Stefanovic in a major Channel 9 interview that he was 100 per cent focused on the 49ers and, using a direct quote: “there is no plan B.”
I remain confident Hayne will be back playing NRL either this season before the June 30 deadline or next year.
And right now there is only one club with enough space in the salary cap to make it happen — and that’s the Sydney Roosters.
