The reigning champions have officially arrived and are here to stay in Langer Trophy 2025.
Palm Beach Currumbin, the 2023 and 2024 premiers, made it two wins in a row on Tuesday night when thwarting Ipswich State High 26-6 at the North Ipswich Reserve.
The Reds armour was virtually impenetrable. The only time Ipswich pierced it was in the 25th minute when centre Tomu Cook dived onto a dropped ball and scored.
The visitors vaulted its tryline and on the other end, captain Jai Bilish brought the best out of his teammates with an inspired performance from hooker.
In a match even closer than the scoreline suggests, Bilish created three tries with quick, snappy service near the tryline.
But it took an epic team effort from players 1-18 to get over the top of Ipswich at its fortress.
Long-striding centre Nio Verhoeven put the exclamation mark on the five-tries-to-one success when he scored a superb 60m solo try nearing full-time.
His centre partner Devin Bates-Wellington also had his best Langer Trophy outing, while towering halfback Taj Lateo caused no shortage of chaos with his booming right boot.
On one occasion, his swirling bomb bounced into the hands of Hudson Pratt whose telling try just after half time gave PBC breathing room ahead 16-6.
PREVIEW
The younger brother of a former Blues Origin series winner shapes as shock weapon for Ipswich State High in its quest for the Langer Trophy.
It took just two touches for underage teenager Baxter Best, the 16-year-old brother of Knights tearaway Bradman, to leave a palm-sized mark on the Langer Trophy last week.
The boom rookie, who signed a four year deal with the Brisbane Broncos earlier this year, showed a similar stiff arm which helped his brother into a Blues jersey last year as he set up the match-sealing try against Marsden.

Ipswich State High coach Joshua Bretherton said his intention was to give the rookie a 10 minute taster in his debut.
But an injury in the outside backs forced his hand early, and Best rose to the occasion.
“We felt that the best thing to do was to try and challenge him,” said Bretherton.
“To try put him out of his comfort zone.
“I thought he did a really solid job.
“I asked him to do some simple things defensively on exit and stuff and he did those things for me which is what I am most proud of.
“He did the team contribution stuff he needed to do and when the game broke open for him, he was able to do the bits everyone knows he can do.”
Palm Beach Currumbin come into the clash against Ipswich with some form after bouncing back in Round 2 with a 24-12 win over Wavell State High.
