Carroll on Monday was one of more than 1700 surf life savers contesting the Masters competition at the Australian surf life saving championships but one of only a select club to win a national title.
The man who has been part of 50000 rescues in his day job at busy Bondi showed off his skills at Broadbeach on the Gold Coat with his win in the 40-44 board race.
“I’m stoked,’’ said Carroll, who also does triathlons, longboarding and races the annual Molokai paddle race in Hawaii to stay fit and limber for his work.
Carroll says he loves being back in the surf lifesaving scene.
“Bondi Rescue is just taking off and is now watched all over the world,’’ said Carroll, a member of the Bronte surf life saving club.
“It’s even big in America. They think we are like life guarding Crocodile Dundees.
“But here I’m just one of the guys. I’ll always be just one of the guys.’’
