All she really wants is a good sleep in after almost an entire month of surfing but Isabella Nichols got so much more on Sunday - including an unappetising dessert.

Women experience surf rage

What she wanted was a good sleep in after almost an entire month of surfing but Isabella Nichols got so much more on Sunday - including an unsavoury dessert.

As Northern Beaches local Jordan Lawler won the men’s title, a runners-up result at the Sydney Surf Pro secured former world junior surfing champion Nichols the No. 1 ranking on the world qualifying series and a prized sport in next weeks wildcard trials for the World Tour opener on the Gold Coast.

“I love point breaks and I’m so exited about the opportunity,’’ said Nichols, who won the trials three years ago but then lost in the first round.

It means Nichols will get to indulge in just a few sleep in’s before she heads to the Snapper Rocks event site to bid for the wildcard spot in the main field at the Boost Mobile Pro women’s event.

KELLY SLATER: What is really motivating the surfing legend?

“I’m running on adrenaline right now but I think from tomorrow I might sleep for a week,’’ she said.

Nichols, who warms-up with football moves, last week finished runner-up to Sally Fitzgibbons at Surfest and admits she took confidence into the Sydney Pro which started just a day later.

On Sunday she again finished second to a more experienced competitor, this time former Hawaiian world tour surfer Alessa Quizon who just pipped her for the title in small waves at Manly.

Quizon said the loss means Nichols must now eat a “brownie with ketchup on it’ after she won a bet between the two surfers who were sharing accommodation at the event.

Lawler received a heroes welcome when he returned to the beach after edging out Brazilian Jadson Andre for the men’s crown.

The Snapper Rocks World Tour opener is the first championship tour event to award equal prize money.

Both the men’s and women’s event could start as early as April 3 with the trials to be surfed a day earlier.
