WHERE’S Mikey.
One minute he’s there, the next he’s gone.
Australian Mikey Wright did an extraordinary disappearing act at Snapper Rocks this week as surfers enjoy some of the best conditions seen at the break in recent times.
Wright caught an impressive barrel at the surfing hotspot and promptly disappeared behind the wall of water for more than 20 seconds.
“I went past about 10 of my mates just chuckling,’’ Wright said of his memorable ride captured on Monday.
“I was crouched low the whole time.’’
The 19-year-old is the younger brother of World Surf League surfers Tyler Wright and Owen Wright.
Owen Wright is currently recovering from a massive wipe-out at Pipeline in Hawaii in December.
Wright said he caught his wave the same day mate Mitch Parkinson rode an epic barrel at Snapper Rocks just a few hours after he did his disappearing act.
“He got a hell one as well,’’ Wright said. “It was one the same day just a bit later.’’
Wright and Parkinson are both contesting the world qualifying series with the long term view of making it onto the World Surf League, potentially as early as 2017.
