HE’S got a famous surfing surname and now Mitch Parkinson has a famous video after he was caught riding “one of the best waves’’ of his life at his renowned local break at Snapper Rocks.

Parkinson, the 20-year-old cousin of former world surfing champion Joel, wove in an out of an extraordinary seven barrels on his 45 second ride at the famous break on Monday morning.

“It was awesome,’’ Parkinson said on Tuesday, 24 hours after he caught the memorable wave at the venue which will host the opening round of the World Surf League in March

“It was close to one of the best rides I’ve ever had for sure.’’

Snapper Rocks is the home break of the likes of multiple world surfing champions Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore, along with Joel Parkinson, is notoriously crowded.

In the YouTube video Parkinson can be see weaving close to surfers as he enjoys his dream ride.

“The conditions have been fantastic for the past three to four days,’’ he said.

“The bank is 10 out of 10 right now. It doesn’t get much better than this.

“It can be a real battle to get a wave (at Snapper) but (the locals have been able to pull rank which is good.’’

The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro’s are the opening events of the world surfing tour for men and women with the waiting period for both events starting March 10.
