It will be the a welcome return to action for many of New South Wales’ most talented hockey stars after last year’s championships were cancelled due to COVID-19 - and with spots up for grabs in the NSW Pride squads for the 2021 Hockey One League - there is plenty to play for during the three-day carnival.

The men’s action will kick off on Saturday morning at the Moorebank Hockey Centre, with Newcastle looking to make it back-to-back titles in Division One.

They’ll face stiff opposition from the likes of Metro South West and Lithgow, while Illawarra South Coast will be favourites to go one better after suffering defeat in the 2019 decider.

Down the road at the Macarthur Hockey Complex in Narellan, 22 women’s teams across three divisions will duke it out for the right to be called State champions.

North West Sydney is the red-hot favourite in Division One, and with the side boasting several NSW Pride representatives, they look likely to repeat their victory from two years ago. Standing in their way will be the Metro South West women and the ladies from Nepean.

The Daily Telegraph will be exclusively livestreaming of a wide selection division one games from the NSW Hockey Men’s & Women’s Open State Championships from 12-14 June including all finals for subscribers.

Ky Willott - Newcastle

A member of the National Junior Program, Willott is a dynamic, silky-skilled, goalscoring midfielder. The 20-year-old will be trying to help the Novocastrians win back-to-back State titles, but there are higher honours on the horizon for him.

Dane Richards - Illawarra South Coast

A big, burly attacking midfielder with size and speed to burn. Richards has represented Australia at junior level and played in the inaugural Hockey One competition in 2019 with the NSW Pride.

Ehren Hazel - Tamworth

Another member of the all-conquering Norwest Strikers, Hazel has long been earmarked for higher honours. He’s got great 3D skills with a wicked shot on goal, but now is the time Hazel needs to realise his enormous potential.

Ryan Proctor - Metro South West

A member of the Australian Development Squad, Proctor has been a mainstay of NSW senior side’s for several years. Proctor is a dogged defender with an immense work rate and willingness to compete.
