They come from across Australia and share the same dream - to one day compete for their country. Meet the rising stars of water polo ahead of the national state championship livestream.

They are teenagers with loads of talent and big dreams.

Fit, fast and strong young guns ready to put on a show at the upcoming Water Polo Australia national state championships.

The U15 and U17 girls event kicks off on Saturday on the Gold Coast with livestreaming of day one matches starting on KommunityTV from 9am.

We’ve gone to the clubs and experts for their input and today we take a look at some of the stars in the making expected to be turning heads at the four-day event Australian selectors will attend as they work to form new national squads.

15 AND UNDER WATER POLO RISING STARS TO WATCH AT NATIONAL STATES

NSW PLAYERS

15 & U: Saskia Dunn, Balmain Club. Was a members of the Australian Cadet team that finished 4th at the recent world championship, Saskia is a strong team player and can play in a variety of positions.

15 & U: Kiera Rippon, Cronulla Club. The niece of former Australian and Olympic water polo stars Bec and Mel Rippon. Kiera is a strong utility player and has a great ability to read a game. She was also a member of the Australian Cadet squad.

15 & U: Indy Smith, Balmain Water Polo Club. The daughter of famous Australian water polo player Bronwen Smith, Indy is also a member of the Australian Cadet squad and is a strong defensive player.

QUEENSLAND PLAYERS

15 & U: Dasha Osadchuk, Mermaids Water Polo Club. Another Australia Cadet team player. Dasha is formidable in goals and was part of the Cadet team that travelled to New Zealand and finished 2nd at the U18 championships.

15 & U: Sofia Brodie, Mermaids Water Polo Club. Another member of the Australian Cadet team that finished 4th at the worlds. Sofia is a fast and agile player and part of the state team leadership group.

15 & U: Emma Williams, St Rita’s Water Polo Club. A promising goalkeeper and considered a rising star. She was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the Queensland championships.

15 & U: Jazmyn Green, Mermaids Water Polo Club. Jazmyn is another talented player moving through the ranks and a leading centre forward.

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS

15 & U: Alexia Cordera, Adelaide Tritons Club. Alexia is a goalkeeper with a reputation for her ability to read the game. A valuable member of the South Australian team.

15 & U: Morgan Hillman, Adelaide Vikings Club. Hillman is a strong centre forward, utility player who is known for her dominance in attack and defence.

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS

15 & U: Poppy Rawlings, Melville Water Polo Club. Poppy started playing JSL when she was just nine. She was part of the winning U16 and U18 Junior State League championship teams this year. She is known as a solid all rounder, strong shooter and excellent driver.

15 & U: Olivia Nordstrom, Melville Water Polo Club. Olivia started playing JSL when just nine and got involved in FlippaBall with her friends. She is a strong centre back and known for her defence.

TASMANIAN PLAYERS

15 & U: Keeley Saunder, Sea Eagles Water Polo Club. Energetic player with speed and endurance. Keeley is developing into a skilful player who can read the game well. Strong in both offence and defence and was named in the Tournament Team at the 2022 15 & U Delfina Interstate Challenge.

15 & U: Millie Groom, Clarence Crocs Water Polo Club. A natural leader in and out of the water. Millie is strong on the ball at both ends of the pool and is a regular goal scorer and a tough defender. A great team player..

UNDER 17 WATER POLO STARS TO WATCH AT NATIONAL STATES

NSW PLAYERS

17 & U: Layla Smith, Balmain Water Polo Club. Outside shooter Layla’s mother Bronwyn Mayer was part of the Sydney 2000 gold medal winning water polo team. She is fast making her own mark and was part of the Australian Youth Team which finished 6th at the world championships.

17 & U: Georgia Chapman, Balmain Club. Georgia was also part of the Australian Youth team which finished 6th at the world championships and is a strong centre back.

17 & U: Samantha Hardingham, Sydney Univeristy. Samantha is part of the Australian youth squad and is a driver. She also played for Sydney Uni in the last Australian Water Polo League.

17 & U: Zoe Thomas, Balmain Club. The travelling reserve for the Australian youth team. Thomas is a powerful centre forward and driver. She is the daughter of dual Olympic water polo player Nathan Thomas.

QUEENSLAND PLAYERS

17 & U: Annabel Cowan, Mermaids Water Polo Club. A goalie who has turned plenty of heads. Annabel was part of the Australian youth team that placed sixth at the world championships.

17 & U: Chelsea Johnson, Mermaids Water Polo Club. Part of the broader Australian youth squad. Chelsea is also the Queensland state team captain and one of the top centre backs.

17 & U: Louisa Downes, Mermaids Water Polo Club. Another member of the Australian youth team. Louisa is a fast goal scoring athlete.

17 & U: Horatia Schlect, Polo Bears Water Polo Club: Part of the broader Australian youth squad. Horatia is a powerful goalkeeper who also formed part of the Queensland schoolgirls team.

17 & U: Taafili Taoso, Mermaids Water Polo Club. A member of the Australian youth team and one of the top centre forwards in her age..

VICTORIAN PLAYERS

17 & U: Jemma Potts, Richmond Club. A player to watch for Victoria. She is a strong utility player who was a travelling reserve for the Australian cadet team.

17 & U: Lilly Holtz, Essendon Club. Lilly has been identified through the national talent identification program a strong player rising through the ranks and one to watch.

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS

17 & U: Taylor Dawkins, Henley Sharks Club. Taylor was part of the Adelaide Jets team in the Australian Water Polo League. Also a member of the Australian youth team at the Cadet world championships.

17 & U I Olivia Scamoni, Adelaide Vikings Club. Olivia also played for the Adelaide Jets in the Australian Water Polo League. She is a player to watch for the future.

ACT PLAYERS

17 & U: Eilis Rogis, Nordek Club. She is the daughter of former national level swimmers. Eilis is a player on the rise and has her sights set on playing water polo and studying in the USA college system next year.

17 & U: Millie Jacobson, Grammar School Club. Millie brings a strong understanding of the game, not only a player who is one to watch but also broadening her knowledge through water polo refereeing.

17 & U: Jade Arnold, Nordek Club. Arnold is a strong utility player whose dedication to the game and consistency in performance makes her a valuable member of the ACT outfit.

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS

17 & U: Isabel Spry, Melville Water Polo Club. Started in flippaball and also a former netballer. Issy has already made a big impression despite just a year in the WA Junior State League.

17 & U: Gabrielle Sayer, UWA Water Polo Club: Played in the WA A-Grade competition and made her AWL debut for UWA Torpedoes in 2022, Gabrielle is a solid centre back with strong leadership skills.
