PREVIEW

The helmets have been strapped on and the trucks wound tight as the BMD Western Rumble takes over Port Kennedy Skatepark in Western Australia on Saturday.

And for the first time, KommunityTV has partnered with the Rumble Tour to live stream action from the street event.

KommunityTV cameras will capture all the thrills and spills as the best junior and open age skateboarders dig deep into their bag of tricks.

A flat, plaza-style course at Port Kennedy is expected to bring out the more technical side of competitors as they aim to produce their best run and best individual trick to wow the judges

“What we are looking for is that technical skating,” said Rumble competition director Donny Fraser.

“We want them to put on a show. These guys are in the entertainment business, they need to go big.”

He confirmed the best young homegrown athletes would be competing in Western Australia with a few surprise names expected to make their way onto the registration lists.

The Western Rumble will also incorporate a bowlriding event for juniors on Friday and another for open age competitors on Sunday, but KommunityTV will only be live streaming the street park events.

Fraser said the opportunity to partner with KommunityTV was a major step forward for the sport domestically.

With the increased access to worldwide competitions, including the ever-popular X Games and World Cup of Skateboarding, a chance to have the best home-grown competitors broadcast to a wide audience was a natural next step for a man who has been part of the scene for almost two decades.

“Long term, we need to have more money for Australian skaters to get into bigger events around the world,” Fraser said.

“It is a big part of us moving into broadcast. The flagship sports in this country have event revenue but they also have a strong broadcast revenue. That is what we want to build. It is part of our growth as a sport.

“This is a massive step for us.”
