Gripping hockey action will feature at University of New England hockey fields at Armidale, as the state’s best under 15 hockey players come to town for the NSW championships.
Three days and 26 matches of junior representative hockey will be livestreamed to you directly via The Daily Telegraph website from Friday at 8am, following a deal between Hockey Australia and News Corp.
Following months of preparation, about 1000 talented athletes will take part in the showpiece event and compete for championship glory.
Despite the chilly weather forecast across the three-day competition, the action on the field is expected to be fast and furious.

REPLAYS AND REPORTS
MATCH 1: CENTRAL COAST 1 GRAFTON 1
A hotly-contested opening match between Central Coast and Grafton has ended all square, with both teams scoring a single goal each.
In the fourth minute of the championships Central Coast’s Lewis Gifford-Cock put his name on the scoresheet when he made no mistake with a penalty corner, following his team’s first attacking raid of the match.
The evenly-matched teams rarely troubled the goalkeepers in the midfield battle, until a well-deserved Grafton goal off the stick of Charlie McGarvie in the final quarter levelled the match.
Both teams frantically searched for a matchwinning strike across the final eight minutes with no luck.
Central Coast will next play Parkes at 12:40pm and Grafton will battle Illawarra South Coast in the following game at 1:50pm, with both matches to be streamed live.

MATCH 2: TAMWORTH 1 PARKES 1
A hard-fought contest between the country representative teams of Parkes and Tamworth, which had the rare feature of not having a single penalty corner, has ended as 1 – 1 draw.
A strong cheer erupted ten minutes into the match as Tamworth Green Frogs hit the lead.
The determined Parkes outfit hit back early in the second quarter thanks to Flynn Thompson, with the half time score 1 – 1.
Strong defence by both teams across the second half so no goals added to the scoresheet, with the match ending 1 – 1.
Parkes team manager Steven Collins said it was a tough opening match, praising the defence of both teams.
Parkes will return to the field at 12:40pm to take on Central Coast, as Tamworth will put their feet up until 5:20pm when they play Illawarra South Coast.

MATCH 3: NORTH WEST SYDNEY 7 SYDNEY SOUTH 0
Competition heavyweights North West Sydney have made a statement with a thrashing in their first match of the tournament, beating Sydney South 7 nil.
North West Sydney took 10 minutes to open their account before doubling it just minutes later, with a strong finish after impressive ballwork in the penalty circle.
After going into halftime with a 3 nil lead, the competition favourites hit the accelerator in the second half to finish the match as 7 nil victors.
Four goals were scored by Josh Robson, two to Jared Findlay and a goal to Harrison Banks.
North West Sydney will look to continue their winning ways against Metro South West at 4:10pm, with Sydney South to battle Newcastle at 3pm.
MATCH 4: METRO SOUTH WEST 5 GOULBURN DISTRICT 2
In arguably the game of the tournament so far, Metro South West have come out on top against Goulburn District in a seven-goal shootout
The action was fast-paced from the opening whistle with the Goulburn outfit stormed down the field to score the opening goal in the opening minutes.
A shocked Metro South West swiftly shook off the setback and scored an counter attacking goal about 60 seconds later to level the score.
A goal off a penalty corner gave Metro South West the lead but Goulburn levelled in the final moments of the half, with the ball pinballed around the penalty circle before being smashed into the goals.
In the second half Metro South West took control of the match, scoring three goals to come out 5 – 2 winners in an entertaining affair.
Ethan Nicholls scored three goals for the winning team, with Adam Hill and Aiden Ibrahim scoring one goal a piece.
MATCH 5: PARKES 5 CENTRAL COAST 2
The highly rated Parkes team has flexed their muscles in their second game, recording a comprehensive 5 – 2 win over the Central Coast.
An attacking showcase in the opening quarter put the result beyond doubt in just 14 minutes, as Parkes notched three unanswered goals, including two to Nathan Marshall and one to captain Toby Collins.
Parkes’ William Rix added a fourth goal in the opening minutes of the second quarter before Central Coast dragged themselves back into the clash through a goal to Ryan Blanch.
Ultimately it was not enough with Parkes scoring a fifth goal in the third quarter through Jett Thompson.
A second goal in the tournament to Central Coast’s Lewis Gifford-Cock saw the final result read 5 – 2.
MATCH 6: ILLAWARRA SOUTH COAST 5 GRAFTON 0
Illawarra South Coast has opened their tournament with a dominant 5 nil victory over Grafton, putting the rest of the competition on notice.
The match was evenly-contested in the opening stages, with a single first quarter goal to Illawarra South Coast the difference.
In the second half, the Illawarra South Coast outfit caught fire and sent home four unanswered goals to claim an impressive 5 nil win.
The goalscorers included two to Hamish Martin, with Henry Jones, Liam Sandison and Keegan Whitten adding their names to the scoresheet.
MATCH 7: NEWCASTLE 4 SYDNEY SOUTH 0
Newcastle have launched their championship campaign with a classy win, scoring four goals against Sydney South.
A goal in the opening minutes set the tone for the Novocastrians, who took control of the match early.
A further two goals before half time saw the scoreline heavily in their favour, with a fourth quarterfinal goal sealing a comprehensive 4 nil victory.
The goals were shared around the squad with Angus Anson-Smith, Ozzie Cameron, Riley Fernance and Kane Nutley sending the ball past the goalkeeper.
MATCH 8: METRO SOUTH WEST 4 NORTH WEST SYDNEY 2
In the under 15 boys hockey battle for western Sydney bragging rights, Metro South West came up trumps and stunned one of the competition heavyweights with a 4 - 2 victory.
The stick of Ethan Nicholls did the early damage for Metro South West against North West Sydney, with the boys from southwest racing to an early two goal lead.
The north westerners, who had earlier handed out a 7 nil thrashing themselves, tried to rally but couldn’t get within a goal at any point of their opposition.
Metro South West took a 3 - 1 lead into the final quarter, following earlier goals to Metro South West’s Aiden Ibrahim and North West Sydney’s Sarab Rajpal.
Metro South West’s Brayden Sutherland all but closed the match with 10 minutes remaining with a classy goal, with North West Sydney scoring a second goal courtesy of William Collins in the final minutes.
MATCH 9: TAMWORTH 2 ILLAWARRA SOUTH COAST 1
Tamworth has secured a last gasp win over Illawarra South Coast, scoring the matchwinner with a minute left on the clock.
In an evenly-contested match, Illawarra South Coast hit the lead before halftime off the stick of Hamish O’Neill.
Tamworth began to build into the contest and when Charlie Straw sent home a strong finish after picking up a loose ball in the penalty circle, it was game on going into the final quarter.
Tempers began to fray on the field as the match looked destined for a draw, until the build up of pressure finally paid off for Tamworth with Charlie Stone sending home the matchwinner.
MATCH 10: NEWCASTLE 2 GOULBURN 1
Newcastle have celebrated a polished 2 - 1 victory over Goulburn to round out an undefeated opening day.
In the opening minutes Goulburn broke loose in attack and created a number of close chances in front of goal but was thwarted on each occasion by the Newcastle goalkeeper and defence.
The Novocastrians worked into the clash with an opening goal off the stick of Ozzie Cameron ten minutes into the match, then held control almost to the final whistle.
A goal before halftime by Kane Nutley doubled the lead to 2 nil, before a goal to Goulburn with about six minutes remaining brought new life into the contest.
Newcastle held their nerve and walked away as 2 - 1 winners.
TEAMS TO BEAT
NORTH WEST SYDNEY
Hockey NSW pathways manager Richard Willis told the Beyond Hockey podcast defending champions North West Sydney would be hard to beat in division one.
Mr Willis said the team is littered with representative experience and know what it takes to get the job done.
“They have quite a few athletes who have played for the NSW team over the past 12 months,” he said.
PARKES
Mr Willis tipped Parkes to have a strong showing in the top division, praising the region’s junior development in recent years.
The pathways manager said he expected the country association to be in the mix at the pointy end of the competition.
“I think Parkes, a developing association from out in the western region, have done a lot of development work in their younger athletes and that is now paying off,” he said.
SYDNEY EAST and HOCKEY NEW ENGLAND
The pathways manager told the Beyond Hockey podcast he expected Sydney East and Hockey New England to be the frontrunners of division two.
Mr Willis pointed to Sydney East’s representative experience, highlighting how some players have competed at the national championships. and Hockey New England to be buoyed by the hometown support.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Oliver Bestwick: A striker representing Bathurst in Division 2, noted by Mr Willis for his strong circle work and being good in the press. Represented NSW at the 2021 U15 national championships.
Toby Collins: A midfield general for his strong Parkes squad. The teenager is known as a good defender and leads the play in the outletting. Represented NSW at the 2021 U15 national championships.
Nathan Marshall: A Lithgow local will represent Parkes at the three-day event. The defender is known for his out letting skills. Represented NSW at the 2021 U15 national championships.
Jared Findley: Representing North West Sydney, this young hockey player has great vision and passing skills. Represented NSW at the 2021 U15 national championships.
Oskar Smith: A Sydney East representative who is known for his athleticism and speed. Has a great presence in the circle. Represented NSW at the 2021 U15 national championships.
