Replay: Peter Mulholland Cup Round 3 - All Saints Maitland v Farrer MAHS

Due to a significant technical failure at the ground beyond our control, we were unable to show the All Saints Maitland v Farrer Peter Mulholland Cup match. We apologise for the inconvenience. A full replay of the match has been provided above.

All Saints, Maitland will be hoping some home town support lifts them to victory over Farrer MHAS and into the Peter Mulholland Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.

The team enters the final round of the group stage in second place with one win and one loss, but can overtake first-placed Central Coast Sports College if they win and results go their way.

The clash will be exclusively live streamed at 1pm on KommunityTV as part of our season-long coverage of the NRL Schoolboys Cup. See the full week-long Schoolboys schedule below.

Given that All Saints’ game will be the second of the Northern Pool double-header, the local side will either know if it still has a chance of qualification or what it needs to do to make it out of the group before kick-off.

“We’ll know (whether they are still alive) before we run out,” said assistant coach Nathan Koen.

All Saints will be hoping for a bumper crowd for their find round clash with Farrer.

“We’re hoping to shield the boys from that, if that’s possible, and just focus on what our job is and looking to beat Farrer.”

Regardless of the scenario, the Maitland players will be hoping for some bumper home support from their schoolmates.

“We’ve got our sports carnival on the same day, which is at the athletics track next door, so we’re looking to maybe pause the carnival and get some students to come over,” said Koen.

“So we’re hoping that playing in front of the school and playing in front of a crowd might keep the boys focused.”

All Saints have been impressive so far in the competition, beaten 20-16 on the bell in a thriller against the Central Coast Sports College, before going on to thrash local rivals Hunter Sports High 38-12.

“It took a bit of brilliance to beat us (in round one),” he said.

“Personally, I thought we were the better team, but a few fundamental errors cost us at crucial points in the game,” said Koen.

“To be beaten by a chip over the top with 90 seconds to go coming out of their own end – that’s just a bit of brilliance and it’s hard to defend. Although I thought the way we responded against Hunter Sports High was terrific.”

Key to the success has been some of the team’s big guns, with the side led by Newcastle Knights junior rep forwards Jack Hilliar and Cody Hopwood.

The pair were recently selected in the NSWCCC side for the national schools carnival, with Hopwood earning selection in the Australian Schoolboys side.

“They’ve been exceptional in those first two games,” said Koen.

The side will also welcome back fellow junior rep star Fletcher Thompson, who missed out last start against Hunter Sports with a quad strain.

“He’s a senior year 12 boy, one of the few we have, because we’ve got a pretty young side this year. So to have him back gives us a lot more strike power across the field,” said Koen.
