Here they are, players We Can’t Wait to See Again who will play across the three finals.

LANGER TROPHY FINAL

PBC SHS v IPSWICH SHS

Ray Puru (PBC SHS)

Over the years we have seen Puru’s brilliance coming through the junior ranks, and he gave us just a slice of the pie last weekend in the big league against Marsden SHS in his return from injury.

Puru came on in the second half as a replacement fullback, sniffing around the middle and enhancing PBC SHS already dangerous middle men, who play a fast game around the ruck.

Sam Stephenson (PBC SHS)

Stephenson can run in tries, or score them by bringing down cross field bombs from Zane Harrison and Bailey McConnell.

A tall, long-striding Year 11 student, he played for the Queensland schoolboys this season and will be full of confidence entering the decider, where he could be the point of difference.

Jack Laing (Ipswich SHS)

The glue of the Ipswich SHS team, this courageous No.13 is tailor-made for grand finals.

The no-fuss Laing has long shed the unsung hero tag. We have been singing his praises for some time now, and the Ipswich SHS community is hoarse in voicing their admiration for this local junior.

Jac Finigan, Jett Jackson and Brady Turner (all PBC SHS)

This terrific forward trio came up empty against Ipswich SHS in last year’s grand final, so have plenty to prove this time around.

They are battle-seasoned warriors, who know exactly what it takes to win a big match.

The towering Brady will make runs down the middle, and his partner in crime will be the lanky Jackson.

On an edge will be Jac Finigan, a forceful runner with leg drive and thrust.

They will be a handful - Jackson for his work ethic, Turner because of his size and Finegan on the edge - and we can’t wait to see them go around on the big day.

Anton Naiyep (Ipswich SHS)

We just can’t get enough of Naiyep, the Queensland schoolboys winger whose crashing dummy half and ruck runs have become a trademark.

Naiyep actually accelerates into the defence, often lands on his front and is just so courageous.

Tyler Peckham-Harris (Ipswich SHS)

Speaking of courageous, let’s introduce Peckham-Harris, small in frame but big in heart. and so talented.

He made this stage his own this time last year with five-star performances as a fullback, and he returns to finals football in 2023 as a dynamic dummy half.

WALTERS CUP

Wavell SHS v PBC SHS

Sangstar Figota (Wavell SHS)

Sangstar Figota.

A young gun fullback who will come steaming down the middle off the back of momentum, or try and make things happen with his own carries. He is dangerous on the edge on shifts as well.

Dylan Patterson (PBC SHS)

What Figota can do for Wavell SHS, Patterson can do for PBC SHS. A promising Australian rules football, Patterson is a natural athlete who is more of a threat out wide and in the air catching cross field bombs.

“He is super raw and super athletic who has only joined us in the rugby league program this year.’’ said PBC SHS coach Will Johnstone.

“And he is a natural talent. In terms of his athletic ability, you don’t see many like him, the way he moves across the ground, jumps and changes direction.

“If he wanted to he could have a big future.’’

Zius Oloapu (Wavell SHS)

PBC SHS has probably the biggest team in the competition - with Kwinn Wolff, Nelson Makaafi, Cruz Dangerfield and Devin Bates Wellington thundering onto the ball.

But that also has its advantages for Wavell’s dummy half Oloapu and half Timahina Tandy.

We loved Oloapu’s natural attack against Keebra and we can’t wait to see how he answers the challenge against PBC SHS on grand final day.

Nelson Makaafi (PBC SHS)

The big bloke on the right edge sure takes some stopping. When he takes the handbreak off, he is one of the most fearsome runners in the schoolboys competition. We can’t wait to see him go around again - although Wavell probably can’t wait to see the end of the game so they don’t confront him again until next season.

Payton Clifford (Wavell SHS)

Does Wavell SHS have the best scrum base trio in the competition? In halfback Timahina Tandy, five-eight Clifford and No. 13 Azariah Toki-Matauri, Wavell SHS has a beautifully balanced playmaking core.

We loved the way Clifford both threatened with his own runs, but also didn’t transfer pressure along the backline.

Kwinn Wolff (PBC SHS)

The biggest bloke on the field, Wolff is an old-fashioned big man who just rips in just as props have done across the decades. We love his simple, but effective game. Memo to PBC hooker Archie Sillar: “Just give him the ball and let him loose’’.

LANGER RESERVES

Ipswich SHS v Marsden SHS

Tarell Indich and Chris Simpson (Ipswich)

Both boys are new to the school this year, moving from Cherbourg.

Playing second row and centre on the same side of the field, they have a unique ability to change a game with either a line break or a try-saving tackle.

Tarell is co-captain and has played two games with the firsts team this year.

Tanei Heijames (Marsden SHS)

Coming off the back of a major injury, Heijames has started to find his feet in the middle of the park. A member of the Wynnum Manly Meninga Cup squad, he tends to set an early tone and we can’t wait to see him play again on grand final day.

Cooper Cracknell, Xzavier Timoteo (Ipswich SHS)

These boys are the youngest in the side, both aged 16 playing in an U18 competition.

Prop Cracknell is on a scholarship with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Timoteo is signed with the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs.

Both boys have been at the school since grade 7 and are elite crash-running forwards who will bend the Marsden defences all day.

Kruz Taputao (Marsden SHS)

Kruz is a former half who continues to get better under the guidance of former South Sydney, Warriors and New Zealand Test champion Issac Luke.
