The two Queensland girls teams flexed their muscles on day two of the BA U16 Nationals in Bendigo.

With Oliva Olechnowicz hitting 38 points and grabbing eight rebounds, the South demolished ACT by 88 points.

Olechnowicz played just 20 minutes but still played a starring role in the 117-29 victory, as did Mya Moke (21 points) and Violet Johnson (14 rebounds).

Clara Kolb scored 20 points and three other players scored 15 or more as Queensland North put Saturday’s winners, Victoria Country, to the sword.

Meanwhile, Isaiah Jorgenson scored 22 points and Andrew Watene added 20 and six assists as Queensland South got their BA U16 National Championships campaign off to a winning start against a stubborn ACT side.

Queensland South eventually won comfortably enough, 91-68, but there was a period in the third quarter where ACT closed to within 11 points and looked very dangerous.

William Macleod led the way for the boys from the nation’s capital with 13 points, four rebounds and six assists while Hamish O’sullivan came of the bench to contribute 12 points.

Get ready for a close up look at one of the favourites for the Basketball Australia U16 nationals boys title when the first full day of tournament play tips off on Sunday.

Queensland South, featuring elite shooting talents like Isaiah Jorgenson, Andrew Watene and Jayden Cecil, start the action on Court 1 at 10am against ACT.

They then back up at 6pm for a showdown with hosts Victoria Country.

Adding to the quality of the Court 1 boys draw, two of the competition heavyweights - NSW Metro and Victoria Metro - play each other at 2pm.

Vic Metro have won the two U16 championships, including last year’s thrilling 112-106 success over South Australia Country.

The girls are certainly not forgotten either, with three games set down for decision.
