The NBA Gobal Academy might be ineligible to become champions at the Basketball Australia Under-20 & Ivor Burge National Championships, but that hasn’t undermined their unquestionable talent.
This time it was the ACT who found themselves of the receiving end, as the young composite outfit of Australians and internationals romped away to a 33-point win in their men’s under-20 crossover game.
Losing only to Victoria Navy on Day 1, this was the Academy’s fourth consecutive victory, having taking care of New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia in their three previous matchups.
REPLAYS
New Zealand v South Australia (Ivor Burge men crossover game)
NBA Global Academy v ACT (U20 men crossover game)
South Australia v ACT (Ivor Burge women)
The offensive load was well distributed for the victors, with five players reaching double digits.
Led by Emmanuel Ahamefule with 14 points and 12 each to Bol Diing and Ladji Coulibaly, the Academy outfit broke the shackles early with a 19-5 first quarter and then comfortably extended the margin at every break.
While captain Sebastien Emenalo was relatively quiet with just six points, he finished with eight rebounds and did a power of work defensively.
With the magnitude of talent at their disposal, it was little wonder they led by 20 at the half and easily pushed that out a further 13 points en route to the 95-62 result.
Point guard Dante Brunton continued his outstanding form for the ACT this week with a game-high 21 points. As the son of NBL Hall of Famer Cal Bruton, it’s clear his pedigree and sublime skills will take him far.
Tall timber Ajak Nyuon, coming in at 209cm, chimed in with 15 points and a whopping 14 rebounds in a super performance.

SA has a chance to snare a win first up in the morning against an ACT side but will eyeing the clash with WA as a real opportunity.
The Sandgropers have battled so far this tournament but it has been a commendable return for the state, sending and IB women’s side to the championships for the first time in three years.
On Thursday, WA was no match for the ACT in a 108-35 defeat while SA went down 43-83 against Victoria.
