You couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Under 14 Australian Club Championships.

The next generation of Boomers stars gave us a glimpse into the future with a series of starring performances across the day one action.

Nunawading and South Districts Spartans appear the two teams to beat but you can’t afford to discount Bendigo and Hills Hornets, who are in the same pool.

Ballarat and Cockburn are also two other teams to keep an eye on over the coming days.

There were a number of standout performances throughout the day but Ballarat’s Lucas Byrne had the highest scoring game with 27 points.

Gold Coast’s Elijah Tuupo was next best with 26 points.

Some of the better team performances saw Antonio Browne (22 points), Kingston Tutani (23) and Max Venardos (21) combine for 66 points in Bankstown’s win over NorthWest Tasmania.

Browne scored 21 points in his side’s first game of the day.

Meanwhile, Jesse Nassif and Nicholas Nicolazzo had 25 and 24 points respectively for Whittlesea in its win over WA outfit Rockhampton.

Cassius Wall (East Perth), Chris Eddy (Cockburn), Harlem Sumner (Woodville), Lucas Li (Woodville), Michael Andrew (Southern Districts) and Nicholas Harvey (Bendigo) were the other players to score over 20 points in one game.

Day two action will see the remainder of the opening pool games.

Woodville has got its tournament back on track with an important win over the South West Slammers.

Despite being challenged in the last quarter, the Warriors were able to get the top job on the back of some fantastic support.

They will now face the Bendigo Braves in their final pool game on Monday.

Nunawading Spectres v Norths Bears (Boys)

Nunawading has made a stunning statement to announce itself as one of the teams to beat.

The Victorian champions were far too good for the Norths Bears, running away 90-50 victory.

After a tense opening, the Spectres flexed their muscles and took the game to another level the Bears couldn’t match.

From star Charlie Wilson to the 12th man in the rotation, Nunawading had winners across the court.

They’ll now rest up ahead of two games on day 2.

Tournament hosts Hills have produced a stunning final quarter comeback to record a 61-54 victory over Woodville.

Hornets guard Ethan Custodio shook off an ankle injury sustained during the third quarter to come up with some big plays late.

The Hornets’ defensive intent was brilliant in the last term allowing them to score on the fast break with ease

Ulysses Mercado (Hornets) and Ethan Chen (Woodville) were among the others to impress.

Bankstown has got its tournament off to a perfect start with a strong win over the Norwood Flames.

Antonio Browne and Kingston Tutani impressed with their length and athleticism for the Bruins.

Mohamed Kamara provided plenty of spark off the bench on the offensive and defensive ends.
