The Albury Cougars had to scratch and claw their way to glory, but have proven themselves as the top side of the Basketball NSW Southern Junior League finals in Canberra.
It took a while but Albury finally hit their stride in a dominant final quarter to take down gallant Canberra 78-69 in the Boys Under-18 Division 1 decider.
It capped a thrilling finals weekend for the Cougars who had dispatched of the Gunners in the major semi-final on Saturday.

The Canberra Gunners looked good value for their halftime lead but the Cougars continued to chip away and drew level early in the final quarter.
A 16-1 run late on effectively sealed the deal as the Gunners undid all their good early work.
Liam Brady top-scored for the Cougars with 22 points while Sam Webb hit 21. Owen Nihill hit three three-pointers for the Gunners in his haul of 18 points.

U18 girls: Moss Vale Magic 101 Wagga Blaze 50
Moss Vale produced a victory befitting their impressive season as five players hit double-figures in a great exhibition of shooting.
The Magic lost only one game all season and had looked good in their semifinal victory over Albury Cougars on Saturday.
Blaze, who had surprisingly beaten the Cougars in the preliminary final, were simply never in the contest.
Darcy Bull topscored with 23 points but was closely followed by Sarah Bull with 19.
U18 Boys Div 1 - Canberra Gunners 78 Illawarra Hawks 59
The slick Gunners have earned retribution after their semi-final loss to set-up a rematch against Albury Cougars in the under-18 boys grand final tomorrow morning.
The Canberra side out-gunned a willing Hawks, maintaining a comfortable lead across all four-quarters in the preliminary final.
The Hawks appeared destined to mount a comeback in the final term, but the Gunners were quick to capitalise on any slight mistake with their impressive handling on the fast break.
It sets up a thrilling grand final, with the Gunners keen to turn the tables on the Cougars. Make sure to set an alarm so you don’t miss the action tomorrow.
U18 girls - Wagga Blaze 69 Albury Cougars 53
Wagga Blaze compounded a miserable day for Albury Cougars with a resounding 16-point victory to reach the decider against Moss Vale Magic.
Beaten by 30 points by the Magic earlier in the day, Albury were no match for Wagga.
U16 girls - Divison One - Canberra Nationals 72 Moss Vale Magic 48
Canberra Nationals have pulled off a huge upset by dumping Moss Vale Magic out of the title race.
The Nationals will now face Queanbeyan Roadrunners in Sunday’s decider.
Moss Vale had won both their previous matches this season but Canberra started fast and had control of the game in the second half.
U18 boys - Division One - Albury Cougars 60 Canberra Gunners 50
Albury Cougars held off a spirited fightback from Canberra Gunners to grab a 10-point victory and move into the decider.
The winner of their previous 11 games, the Cougars found scoring difficult in the second half difficult but had enough in tank to prevail.
U18 girls - Moss Vale Magic 73 Albury Cougars 43
Moss Vale Magic showed their class to comfortably see off the challenge Albury Cougars.
Magic, who had lost just once all season, skipped out to an early lead and never looked back, turning a 15-point halftime lead into a big 30-point success.
U16 girls - Division One - Roadrunners 94 Magic 57
Queanbeyan extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with an impressive victory over Moss Vale.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a huge early lead and were never troubled, eventually winning by 37 points to move through to the Southern NSW title decider.
