Meet the Baby Boomers.

Australia’s extended squad for next week’s FIBA World Cup qualifiers will feature four teenagers - and these kids are all right.

Sixteen-year-old 7’2” NBA Global Academy giant Rocco Zikarsky and 18-year-old WA pair Ben Henshall and Alex Condon will be part of next week’s Boomers camp as train-on players, joining 18-year-old ACT wunderkind Alex Toohey in Dean Vickerman’s squad.

Vickerman’s Melbourne United big men Isaac Humphries and Mason Peatling, along with Adelaide 36ers young gun Nick Marshall will represent the Aussies. Tokyo bronze medallist Nathan Sobey is there, as is Sixers gun point guard Mitch McCarron, forming the nucleus of a squad to be captained by veteran Boomer Nick Kay.

Each of the four teens is, this week, in action at the U20 National Championships before they head into Boomers camp.

The National Championships are being exclusively live streamed by KommunityTV, and you can watch Toohey’s ACT in action from 7pm tonight.

Vickerman will be in Geelong this week to get a closer look at them - and to potentially find another point guard to add to the training squad.

It’s a role that could be filled by someone like Tasmanian scoring machine Kye Savage or Joel Foxwell, the Vic Navy flamethrower and brother of South East Melbourne Phoenix Development Player Owen Foxwell, or NSW point guard Joshua Dent, younger brother of Illawarra Hawk DP Lachlan Dent.

Vickerman, who will make his senior coaching debut for Australia, already has a link to Condon, whose father, WAFL great Damian Condon, played Aussie rules in the United mentor’s Victorian hometown of Warragul.

“I know Condon’s dad used to play footy in Warragul so, if he’s like his dad, he’s got plenty about him,” Vickerman said.

“I’m excited to see him. (Long-time United assistant and new Brisbane Bullets coach) Justin (Schueller) has talked to me a lot about what Rocco did on his world junior team and Ben’s put up some impressive numbers at the U20s.

“Going back and watching the games against Bahrain and Kazakhstan, to see Toohey and Rory Hawke get in there and compete really well, this is a perfect opportunity to integrate some guys who could be future Boomers down the track.”

Each of Condon, Henshall and Zikarsky could potentially make a senior debut out of either injury or necessity.

Toohey can’t wait to rejoin the program after previous lessons from Boomer veterans.

“It’s an awesome experience, every time I get called up to the senior team, I feel like a little kid again,” Toohey said.

“It’s a great feeling, knowing the guys who are there now, I’m really excited to play with them again.

“I really got along with Mitch Norton, the Perth guard, and Rhys Vague (Kagawa Five Arrows, Japan) and (Adelaide’s) Mitch McCarron, really looked up to them.

“The chats off the court were so valuable, just as valuable as training, trying to pick their brain, learning everything I can from them and just absorbing what I can.”

With the Boomers struggling to fill out numbers for the dead-rubber fixtures in the middle of the NBA season and NBL finals, they’ve turned to youth and Vickerman’s team will be captained by long-time Boomer Nick Kay and heads into camp in Melbourne on Sunday, ahead of a pair of qualifiers against Bahrain (Thursday, February 23) and Kazakhstan (Sunday, February 26), in Wantirna South.
