MATCH REPORTS

FIELD 1

2.30pm: St Francis De Sales Regional College, Leeton 31 d Xavier High, Albury 14

St Francis De Sales Regional College have powered past Xavier High in the final round to be crowned Senior Girls Cup champions.

With a comprehensive 31-14 victory in their fourth and final match, the Leeton-based girls finished as the only undefeated team and will now return home as the toast of the town.

In what was effectively a grand final between the two top sides, St Francis entered the contest on fresh legs after a round four bye. It was much different for Xavier, after the Albury girls were run off their legs in a pulsating draw with Pymble.

After soccering through the opening goal in the fifth minute, St Francis dominated field position but could only add another six behinds to lead 12-0 at the break.

After conceding another goal, Xavier finally found their running game and combined with several strong overhead marks roared back into the contest to trail by a goal with eight minutes to play.

But it was Gabriella Coghill who regained the momentum for St Francis. After taking a mark within range, the tall left-footer then kicked true to open a two-goal buffer.

And with the title assured, St Francis finished off in style adding another goal to round out an impressive 17-point win.

1.45pm: Daramalan College, Canberra 32 d Kildare Catholic College, Wagga Wagga 8

Daramalan College have opened their account with a comfortable 32-8 win over Kildare Catholic College.

Following a dour first half where they held a narrow one-point lead, Daramalan then opened the floodgates scoring five unanswered goals in a blistering finale.

1pm: St Francis De Sales, Leeton 29 Kildare Catholic College, Wagga Wagga 9

St Francis De Sales kept its title hopes alive with a commanding second half, extending its unbeaten run to three games with a 29-9 victory over Kildare Catholic College.

A goal in the third minute set St Francis up and running, but Kildare quickly hit back with one of their own following an electric build up through midfield.

Trailing by nine points, Kildare came out strong after the interval in pursuit of a breakthrough victory. But the St Francis backline held firm and they were rewarded with the final two goals of the match.

10.45am: St Francis De Sales, Leeton 23 d Pymble Ladies College 19

St Francis De Sales made it two-from-two with a nail biting 23-19 round two victory over a defiant Pymble Ladies College.

Pymble looked to have bagged the opening goal in the fourth minute but were denied on the goal-line by desperate St Francis defence.

While both sides headed to the break with one goal, it was St Francis who enjoyed a three-point lead.

Goals were traded in the run home as St Francis clung to a four-point advantage as the clock counted down.

Pymble finished in a hurry but an attacking raid finished out of bounds just as the final siren sounded.

10am: St Francis De Sales, Leeton 28 d Daramalan College, Canberra 14

St Francis De Sales have overcome an 11-point halftime deficit to overpower Daramalan College 28-14 in the opening round of the Senior Girls Cup.

Daramalan had the better of play in the first half but could only manage one goal and seven behinds to lead 13-2.

St Francis had all the running in the second half, and the girls from Leeton made the most of their opportunities kicking four unanswered majors to overpower their Canberra rivals.

FIELD 2

2.30pm: Pymble Ladies College 14 d Daramalan College, Canberra 10

Following an amazing draw in the second last round, Pymble rebounded to ensure they return home to Sydney with a win after edging out a gutsy Daramalan 14-10.

Pymble kicked the only two goals of the first half, but were made to work in a tough second stanza. Daramalan had the better of the closing stages but were unable to deliver the match winning kick.

1pm: Xavier High, Albury 29 d Daramalan College, Canberra 21

Xavier High were made to work hard for its second win on the bounce, withstanding a late Daramalan College charge in an entertaining 29-21 win.

After winning the opening bounce, Xavier struck immediately when Tully Hayes drilled the ball straight between the posts from 25 metres.

Daramalan settled back into the contest and struck back with the next two majors to open a 15-7 halftime lead.

With strong overhead marking, Xavier controlled the early stages after the break and raced ahead on the back of three consecutive goals.

Daramalan kicked the final goal in the closing stages and threatened to level before the Albury girls kicked two late behinds.

10.45am: Xavier High, Albury 44 d Kildare Catholic College, Wagga Wagga 2

Fresh from an opening round bye, Xavier College have overrun a tired Kildare Catholic College 44-2.

Following an even opening, Xavier kicked their first goal in the seventh minute and doubled the lead five minutes later.

After leading 20-1 at the break, the Albury girls went on with the job adding another four goals to finish with a percentage boosting 42-point win.

10am: Pymble Ladies College 21 drew Kildare Catholic College, Wagga Wagga 21

Pymble and Kildare shared the spoils after playing out a thrilling 21-all draw in their opening game.

In a classic game of two halves, Pymble kicked the first goal in the fifth minute before adding another three to open what appeared an unassailable 21-0 halftime advantage.

The switch of ends did Kildare the world of good, and they scored their first goal two minutes in.

From there the Wagga girls had the better of the second half, adding another two unanswered goals to finish on level terms.
