Flemington trainer Scott Cameron has taken his time with Elouyou and can be rewarded with another win in the last race at Caulfield on Saturday.

Young Flemington trainer Scott Cameron is being rewarded for the patience given to Elouyou, favourite to win the last race at Caulfield on Saturday.

This spring has potentially arrived too soon for Elouyou, a three-time winner placed in all eight starts to date, but any rating boost now could shape future plans — in Melbourne or Sydney.

“He’s just going to get better and better, he’s finally starting to learn what it’s all about,” Cameron, 32, said.

“I’m very lucky to have a horse like him … always shown good potential from day one, he was a bit frustrating early doors.

“Every time we put a bit of pressure on him he just wasn’t ready yet, so we had to take our time with him which I think has been the best thing … patience was the key and he’s racing accordingly.”

Elouyou ploughed through a heavy Rosehill track to win in Sydney seven weeks ago.

He could face similar conditions on Saturday at Caulfield, should forecast rain eventuate.

“I don’t know if he’s better on a wet track, but it probably slows down the rest,” Cameron said.

“I reckon he goes the same speed on a soft track as he does a good track … he’s not a horse that’s got a great turn of foot but he’s got a good cruising speed.

“He’s a bombproof racehorse, he flies the barriers and he puts himself in a good spot, which is half the battle anyway.”

Elouyou is a $2.25 favourite with TAB to win the 1400m Benchmark 84 from The Open ($5) and Danaustar ($7).
