Best bets and top tips for Saturday’s PB Lawrence Stakes meeting at Caulfield

Pinstriped can go one better than last year’s fighting second to Mr Brightside when he returns to Caulfield for Saturday’s Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes.

PINSTRIPED (Race 8, No. 6)

Quality galloper that ran second in this race last year. His recent jumpouts indicate he’s come back well and could go one better.

VALUE BET

I MISS MARGIE (Race 4, No. 15)

She went to the spelling paddock a winner and has performed well enough at the jumpouts to suggest she could win first-up.

RACE 1: 12.25PM SPORTSBET FEED HANDICAP (1100m)

Track rating will be interesting with the forecast rain. MISS ICELANDIC (1) was a fighting winner at Sandown third-up and will be fitter again. SHAIME (5) found plenty to score at Flemington and is a chance for the double. RUN LIKE HELL (7) will be better for a sound first-up run at Sandown. CUTE AS (9) is another last-start winner on the improve.

SUGGESTED BET: Miss Icelandic each-way.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Dipsy Doodle $5.50 – $4.60.

RACE 2: 1PM CATANACH’S JEWELLERS HANDICAP (1600m)

Small field, which should advantage the on-pacers. RISE AT DAWN (7) is racing most consistently and should enjoy a 4.5kg weight drop on his Flemington win. KEATS (1) is a talented galloper resuming and should have every chance. SHOWMANSHIP (1) will give the leaders a start, but he relished 1600m last start. RHAPSODY CHIC (6) is on trial at 1600m but is flying.

SUGGESTED BET: Rise At Dawn to win.

RACE 3: 1.35PM VALE CATHERINE RAE (1400m)

LOVAZOU (6) is fresh for this after two excellent wins to start her campaign. She’ll have every chance from barrier four. ALECTRONA (11) is likely to roll forward in a race of little pace and be hard to run down. CHARISSE (14) is an improving type that will be fitter for her first-up run. JUSTDOIT (1) is racing in great form and worth including again.

SUGGESTED BET: Lovazou to win.

RACE 4: 2.10PM QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP (1100m)

Big field but I MISS MARGIE (15) might go around over the odds first-up after a couple of strong jumpouts at Cranbourne. BEAST MODE (1) will race on the speed and is hard-fit for this slightly easier contest. AMIGO (4) finished hard to score at Sandown and there should be enough speed on for this. TEN COMMANDMENTS (3) is also a chance in an open race.

SUGGESTED BET: I Miss Margie each-way.

RACE 5: 2.45PM GROUP 3 IVE> VAIN STAKES (1100m)

Small field of six for the Vain Stakes but WONDER BOY (4) impressed with his debut win and he’ll be hard to beat again. WINCHESTER (6) was a game first-up winner and could control the race from the front. INTEREST POINT (3) has shown enough in his three runs to say he will measure up to this. BLUE STRATUM (1) is going well and worth thought on a seven-day back-up.

SUGGESTED BET: Wonder Boy to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Letsfacethemusic $5.50 – $4.60.

RACE 6: 3.25PM GROUP 3 TILE IMPORTER QUEZETTE STAKES (1100m)

KUROYANAGI (5) has strong Caulfield form, including a third in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, and will be better for her first-up run in Adelaide. MANOLO BLING (7) is a talented filly that should handle the rise in class here. DRIFTING (1) trialled well in Sydney and went well in strong two-year-old races last prep. KIRRIBILLI (10) jumps sharply in class but is worth including in exotics.

SUGGESTED BET: Kuroyanagi to win

RACE 7: 4PM LISTED EVERGREEN TURF REGAL ROLLER STAKES (1200m)

ARKANSAW KID (8) resumes as a gelding but has every chance to start his spring campaign with a win from the perfect draw. THE PENDRAGON (5) has impressed at the jumpouts and could surprise fresh. CASTE (9) is a quality mare on the comeback trial and has the talent to shock first-up. MAOTAI (11) was dominant in an easier race first-up and drops in weight.

SUGGESTED BET: Arkansaw Kid to win with a saver on The Pendragon.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Arkansaw Kid $4.80 – $4.60

RACE 8: 4.35PM CATANACH’S JEWELLERS PB LAWRENCE STAKES (1400m)

Happy to back PINSTRIPED (6) to go one better than his second to Mr Brightside in this race last year. His recent jumpouts have been excellent. PERICLES (1) has also trialled well in Sydney and won first-up on the corresponding weekend last year. AEGON (2) resumes and is always competitive at this level. JIMMY THE BEAR (9) rises in class but has a fitness advantage over the top fancies.

SUGGESTED BET: Pinstriped to win.

RACE 9: 5.15PM SENET GAMBLING LAW EXPERTS HANDICAP (1400m)

The toughest race of the day finishes the Caulfield meeting but SANDPAPER (15) drops in weight after another good effort at Sandown and could improve. THE OPEN (8) is racing in terrific fashion and is a danger despite the draw. BELLE SAVOIR (9) ran on well in heavy ground last time out and is worth including again. ELOUYOU (16) is a talented type and could measure up to this.

SUGGESTED BET: Back both Sandpaper and The Open.
