NEWCASTLE INSIDE MAIL

Race 5: Benchmark 68 (1400m)
BUBA (5) was very good coming from near last under 58kg when third to Zipitalist on a Soft 6 at Newcastle first-up. Didn’t sprint as well second-up when sixth to Equipage on a Good 4 at Wyong. Back on wet ground where her form is better. Silent Russian has placed in both first-up runs. Given a shake up on the bend before cruising late to win his Wyong trial on July 29. Hard Pick worked home okay for second to Poppin’ Champagne this track an distance on Aug 3.
Bet: Buba to win.

Race 6: Maiden Plate (1250m)
MAORI CHIEF (8) is a debutant by I Am Invincible from Group 1 placegetter Heatherly. Ran over the top of Winchester in his July 12 heat then kept under a hold when runner-up to him in his July 23 heat. COPACABANA (2) placed at Warwick Farm on debut before a second and a third in Victoria. He was given a big challenge last start in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas. Both recent trials have been on a heavy and a good tracks. BAUHINIA (11) was clear last at the 800m before storming home for second to Red Hot Lizzie on debut at Canterbury.
Bet: Maori Chief to win.

Race 7: Fillies and Mares Benchmark 64 (1250m)
WINGS OF DESIRE (10) might the be the three-quarter sister of Winx but she has shown the talent to forge her own reputation. Sat wide and closed smartly to win her last trial at Rosehill before bursting between runners to score on debut at Hawkesbury. GOLD DUST (6) was just beaten by Nightingale at Hawkesbury two starts back before finishing just over a length behind Cosmonova when fifth at Canterbury last start. SPIRIT OF STORM (2) has placed six from eight on her home track including a closing second last start.
Bet: Wings Of Desire to win.

Race 8: Colts, Horses and Geldings Benchmark 64 (1250m)
DENMAN STAR (3) sat off the speed before coming wide off the bend to run down Woodlander when resuming for new trainer Angela Davies. Unplaced in three previous second-up runs but finished on the back of the placegetters twice. FORTINGALL (13) sat outside Alpine Ski and was gutsy in winning on debut at Kembla on July 18. Drawn well and looks the hardest to beat. CARPACCIO (8) will take benefit from his first-up third at Wyong.
Bet: Denman Star each-way.

MOREE TIPS

BEST BET
Race 3 No.5 NIGHT FIGHTER
Was a close third in the Grafton Guineas Prelude before being held up until straightening when fourth there last start. The 1600m suits.

MOREE INSIDE MAIL

RACE 4: Benchmark 58 (950m)
PRINCE OF SEPANG (2) makes his debut for the Jane Clement stable. Comes up from Victoria where he was a first-up winner at Sale before a fourth at Moe and a fifth at Geelong. Drawn wide but gets a 4kg claim. PARIS LAD (5) was a debut winner at Bathurst in good fashion before placing his next two. Resumes here and has also drawn wide. SUPER SIOUX (9) was spelled after a debut eight at Scone in July last year. Returned with an all-the-way despite a big drift in betting at Tamworth in June.
Bet: Prince Of Sepang each-way.

RACE 5: Benchmark 82 (1300m)
DEEP ROUGE (2) was disappointed for a run at the 150m when fourth to Bomarea first-up at Tamworth. Overraced middle stages but closed well late when sixth to Cavalier Charles at Grafton three weeks ago. She should appreciate the step up to 1300m. FOREIGN BROTHER (5) is knocking on the door for his 10th career win. Handy third to Markwell Dreamer at Tamworth two starts back before a nose second to Toulon Factor in the Collie Cup at Gilgandra. TOULON FACTOR (9) has won two of his last four starts and will be prominent again.
Bet: Deep Rouge to win.

Race 6: Benchmark 58 (1400m)
LEICA MODEL (9) scored back-to-back wins Armidale and Moree soon after joining the Stirling Osland stable from Victoria last year. Ran home well for second to Fill A Promise at Quirindi in a Bm66. Drops in grade. STOCK THE ROSE (6) won well at Quirindi before a handy third at Tamworth. Came from well back with 60.5kg when fourth to Cyclone Rupert over 1200m at Tamworth last start. ALLAY (7) drops in grade from her fifth to Tough Case at Muswellbrook.
Bet: Leica Model to win.

Race 7: Class 1 Handicap (1300m)
OFF THE PRESS (5) had to be steadied from heels near the 200m when eighth at Scone first-up then was bumped at the 100m when eight at Tamworth. Both times beaten just over two lengths. Went back from the outside gate and ran on well for a length sixth to Lostma Cowboy at Warren last start. Can settle closer from the inside gate. POWER BEAU (4) broke his maiden with a closing win by a length from Lonhreel at Tamworth last time out. AIR COMBAT (2) is coming off an all-the-way win from Yamamai on a heavy track at Dubbo.
Bet: Off The Press each-way.
