Victorian trainers Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans chasing Gold Coast Magic Millions riches

Trainers Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans see no reason to change a successful template with Invincible Woman leading into Saturday’s $3m Magic Millions 2YO Classic in Queensland.

The week before a $3m race is no time to change a successful program.

Hence, Cranbourne trainers Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans have stuck to a proven formula with Invincible Woman leading into Saturday’s Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Invincible Woman trialled 12 days before her impressive win in the $250,000 Magic Millions Classic on the Caulfield Heath track last month and had a hitout at the Gold Coast 12 days before Saturday’s rich contest.

Yeomans said the I Am Invincible filly would enjoy a light week before her shot at one of the world’s richest two-year-old races.

“We’ve followed the same model that we did leading into her last start when she won,” she said.

“She trialled two weeks before and we didn’t do much with her on the Tuesday before that Saturday so we’re doing the same thing.”

Irrespective of Saturday’s result, Invincible Woman will hold a special place in Kennewell and Yeomans’ stable as the first horse the duo bought in partnership last year.

The pair teamed up with respected racing broadcaster Lizzie Jelfs, putting together an all-female ownership group to chase the $500,000 in bonuses available to women’s syndicates in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Gold Coast track deadline revealed for Saturday’s Magic Millions

Yeomans, who has a small share in Invincible Woman, has overseen the filly’s Queensland preparation, becoming the complete package of owner, stablehand and trainer in one.

She said Invincible Woman’s Magic Millions preparation had progressed smoothly but the team remained on alert leading up to Saturday’s race.

“She’s been up here for a little while now. We left Melbourne on the 22nd of December,” Yeomans said.

“As of today, we couldn’t be any happier.

“But there’s a whole week to go and anyone that is involved with horses knows, a lot can happen in a week.

“I’ve got her wrapped in cotton wool and I’m the one looking after her as the stablehand and the trainer so I’m keeping her in one piece.”

Magic Millions 2YO Classic acceptances: Gun colt made first emergency

Like many of her counterparts, Yeomans would dearly like an inside draw for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, for which the venue is yet to be determined as urgent track works proceed at the Gold Coast.

Yeomans said the stable hoped the race would proceed at the Gold Coast but was happy to race anywhere.

Alligator Blood is back … but his comeback campaign will be with a new trainer

“I’ve been manifesting barrier two but anything from midfield and inward, we’d be happy with,” Yeomans said.

“She’s very quick away and has good early speed but I’m not even going to think about drawing wide.

“As far as the track, we’d love her to run at the Gold Coast because it’s a nice tight track, similar to the track she won on, so that appeals to us.

“But if it’s at another track, we’re fine with that too.”

Star jockey Damian Lane will again ride Invincible Woman on Saturday.
