Rachel King aiming to become the first female jockey to win The Everest after locking in ride on Lady Of Camelot

No female has ever won The Everest, but Rachel King will shoot to be the first when she rides in the $20m race next week.

Rachel King will aim to be the Queen of The Everest and become the first female to win the $20m feature after being booked to ride Lady Of Camelot next Saturday.

Racenet can reveal King has secured the ride on the Golden Slipper winner, who will go around with the featherweight of 51kg in sprint classic.

The three-year-old filly secured a slot in the race last week when her owner Sir Owen Glenn reached an agreement with James Harron to lease his slot for the year.

The Everest has been an all-male affair since its conception in 2017, for both horse and jockey, however King will attempt to change that aboard the $34 lightweight chance.

In what will be her first hitout on the filly, King will ride Lady Of Camelot in a barrier trial at Randwick on Tuesday against other Everest hopefuls Joliestar, Private Eye and Sunshine In Paris.

King will come up against Stefi Magnetica, who she would likely have ridden to victory in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in the winter, however was overseas to get married.

Lady Of Camelot makes up one of six fillies and mares in the race.

With Max Whitby signing up Private Eye to his slot on Sunday and Godolphin selecting its colt Traffic Warden to run in The Everest, it leaves Yulong as the only remaining empty slot in the race.

Lady Of Camelot was brave in defeat in the Group 1 Moir Stakes at The Valley last month, however was disappointing when running seventh behind I Am Me in the Group 2 The Shorts a fortnight ago.

It will be King’s third Everest ride, having ridden Eduardo in 2020 and Overpass in 2022.

King is coming off a win for Lady Of Camelot’s trainer’s Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate on Saturday aboard King Kirk.
