Golden Slipper-winning owner and wealthy philanthropist Sir Owen Glenn says he has the ultimate faith that young gun Sydney jockey Zac Lloyd is the man to deliver the Group 1 Moir Stakes.

The 84-year-old Glenn, who has an estimated fortune of more than $400m, loves the booking of the up-and-coming star to ride Slipper-winning filly Lady Of Camelot at 50kg in the Moir (1000m) at The Valley on Saturday.

After winning the Slipper with Lady Of Camelot this year, Glenn told Racenet from his private yacht that he had a dream to fly into outer space but his bid was blocked by his cardiologist who told him he was worried he could “croak” in outer space.

Now, Glenn said Lloyd can rocket to Group 1 glory on the resuming Lady Of Camelot.

“I along with Gai Waterhouse and her team keep a close eye on the jockey statistics and it is clear to all the step forward that Zac has taken in recent seasons,” Glenn told Racenet.

“We thought he would suit Lady Of Camelot and would relish the challenge.

“We are heading there to win and we have confidence Zac is the man for the Moir.”

Glenn now estimates he has owned or part-owned about 34 Group 1 winners, previously having raced stars like Criterion, Monaco Consul, Railings and Comin’ Through.

Lady Of Camelot, who is taking on older sprinters in the Moir Stakes, has been strongly backed into $3.10 favouritism after opening at $3.70.

Apprentice Lloyd will pilot the Golden Slipper winner for the first time on race day, but rode her in a Randwick trial last month which the filly won and beat home Giga Kick in the process.

Giga Kick is the $2.70 favourite to make a winning return when he resumes in the Concorde Stakes at Randwick on Saturday after the 2022 The Everest winner spent a long time off the scene recovering from injury.

Lloyd has won wide spread acclaim for his riding but did come in for criticism in Melbourne last spring when he partnered young colt Militarize to finish eighth in the Cox Plate.

However, he has bounced back strongly at the top level and surged into racing’s elite Group 1 club when scoring the Stradbroke Handicap on Stefi Magnetica during the Queensland winter carnival.
