The entry deadline has been extended but resuming stars Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside could have up to 10 rivals in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

The $750,000 event will be the first Group 1 race in Victoria for the season but the nominations have been extended until 10am on Tuesday.

Exciting mare Pride Of Jenni is the highest-rated runner on 122, four points ahead of Mr Brightside.

Gollan names main Memsie danger … and it’s not Jenni

Mr Brightside narrowly defeated Pride Of Jenni when the pair last met over 1400m in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes in the autumn but the latter won their next three clashes over longer trips.

TAB installed Pride Of Jenni as the $2 opening favourite ahead of Mr Brightside at $3 while Queenslander Antino is a $6 hope.

Pride Of Jenni’s trainer Ciaron Maher gave the front-running mare three jumpouts ahead of the Memsie Stakes, which will be her first run since her scintillating win in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick in April.

Regular rider Declan Bates said the now seven-year-old had done everything right in the early stages of a preparation that was geared towards the Cox Plate in October.

“She’s ticking all the boxes now,” Bates said.

“You don’t want to get ahead of yourself until you get to the race but her preparation so far has been very smooth.

“She’s come to hand very quick and after her jumpouts I couldn’t be happier.

“She’s fit now, she’s in a good frame of mind.

“I feel she’s really matured mentally and physically, all the signs are there that she’s going to be as good as ever but we’ll find out when we get to the race track.”

The $8 chance Gentleman Roy is the only other runner under $10 in early Memsie Stakes betting.
