Fans roast Mike Tyson statue as fight as plot thickens for next fight.

A Mike Tyson statue was unveiled in Las Vegas but fans have been quick to roast the bust as the 55-year-old nears a ring return.

Former boxing world champion Mike Tyson has been honoured by a bronze statue in Las Vegas — or was he?

The bust which is outside Mulberry’s Pizza at the Resorts World in Las Vegas shows Tyson with a ripped six-pack, bulging muscles and his famous face tattoo.

Mulberry’s Pizza was started in New York, where Tyson was born, before moving to California and is owned by Tyson’s childhood friend Richie Palmer.

But fans were quick to rip into the statue, claiming the statue looked nothing like former boxing world champion.

In fact, some believe that it actually looks more like Evander Holyfield, the man Tyson infamously bit on the ear during the second of their two fights.

Fans ruthlessly mocked the bust with tweets including “That statue looks nothing like Mike Tyson”, “That’s a generic statue of a boxer with the Tyson face tattoo” and “Another crime committed by a sculptor. This looks absolutely nothing like Mike”.

Others compared it to the Cristiano Ronaldo statue at Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport in the football champions birthplace on Madeira.

But the likeness didn’t worry Tyson as he thanked Palmer for the honour.

“Well, you know, I’m from New York and Mulberry Pizzeria’s legendary there and I lived in Beverly Hills and it was legendary there,” Tyson said.

“I lived around the corner from it. I was here in Vegas and Richie Palmer honoured me with the statue and I’m really humbled and thank you, Richie.

“I knew Richie ever since my teenage years in New York City and we always been close and I’m a little overwhelmed. I’m pretty humbled right now.”

Tyson become the youngest heavyweight world champion in history at 20-years-old and held the WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight titles as the undisputed world heavyweight champion between 1987 and 1990 before a shock loss to Buster Douglas.

Two years later, Tyson was jailed, having been convicted over the rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington.

He did return to the ring and to the top of heavyweight boxing, winning the WBC and WBA world titles but he was never really able to reclaim the heights he had early in his career.

Since his retirement from boxing, Tyson has become a marijuana entrepreneur but returned to the ring against Roy Jones Jr. last November.

But Tyson is set to come back to the ring once again, amid reports he is set to fight YouTuber Logan Paul in his next fight.

Tyson teased his next fight would be in February 2022, saying: “I am going to have a return fight in February and we are pretty sceptical about the opponent but it will be a really stimulating opponent.”.

It has since been rubbished by Paul’s coach via 2008 Olympic bronze light-heavyweight medallist Tony Jeffries.

It comes after Paul had called out Tyson, saying he could beat him in a fight.

“Someone mentioned Mike Tyson, like how funny is it? One great at a time. Or is it like you can only fight one?

“My lawyer mentioned it and he was like, ‘No, Tyson will rip your head off, you don’t stand a chance’.

“I’m like bro, I literally just went through all of this, you can’t tell me I can’t beat Mike Tyson. Bro, he’s old, old.”

Tyson has been complimentary of the Paul brothers, praising Logan after the Mayweather fight.

He told him on FaceTime: “You kicked his ass. You’re bad, I was wrong!

“I’m proud of you, you kicked ass, I’m proud of you. Everybody’s talking about you, you’re the man.

“You went eight rounds with the greatest of all times, I was telling people they don’t want to try that s***. You got him with those punches.”
