The claws are well and truly out between Paul Gallen and Josh Aloiai as both took shots at each other on social media ahead of a mooted bout.

Paul Gallen and Josh Aloiai don’t appear to like each other very much and that won’t change anytime soon if the duo’s latest Instagram stories are anything to go by.

The pair look set to meet each other in the boxing ring sometime soon, but an official date for the mooted bout is yet to be locked in.

However, while they can’t throw physical jabs yet, there’s no stopping Gallen and Aloiai from sending some verbal jabs of their own to each other.

Last week Aloiai told Triple M said “there was a fight deal on the table” for him to take on the Cronulla Sharks great before Gallen told Wide World of Sports he didn’t “see a whole lot” of ability in Aloiai’s rugby league displays for Manly in the 2021 season.

Gallen took to Instagram as he believed Aloiai turned down an offer to fight six three-minute rounds, but the Sea Eagles hardman refuted those claims on his own social media page on Monday morning.

“Paul, I’ve agreed to 6 x 2 (minute rounds),” Aloiai wrote in an Instagram story. “The contract you’s (sic) sent me.

“The exact same as Barry Hall and Hoppa (John Hopoate). You didn’t need more than 2 minutes for the experienced Lucas Browne so stop yarning and sign the contract!

“You tell me to respect boxing but when you thought I was out of the fight due to illness you tried to offer @joeyleilua 3 x 2 min rounds? Someone who you know has no boxing experience.”

Gallen hit back almost immediately and posted on his Instagram story: “@joshaloiai you flop I sent you nothing I’m not the promoter.

“I don’t know if you’re sick, and I don’t care.

“I never approached @joeyleilua maybe the promoter did but that’s his job. I wouldn’t fight him over 3 x 2 min rounds.

“Same as I won’t fight you over 2 min rounds you coward.

“Do it properly or don’t do it flog.”

Should a fight between the two go ahead, it would be Aloiai’s first time in a boxing ring at a professional level.

Gallen is 11-1-1 in his fighting career and is locked in for three fights in the next 12 months.

The 40-year-old most recently took on Australian heavyweight champion Justice Huni in June, which Gallen lost via TKO after a valiant effort against the reigning titleholder for ten rounds.

Before that, Gallen had been on a tear and lays claim to wins over former Australian UFC star Mark Hunt and ex-WBA heavyweight champion Lucas Browne in his career.
