Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fight: Boxing legend humiliated in horror show
Jake Paul has dominated an embarrassed opponent in a boxing fight that will do nothing to silence the YouTuber’s critics.
Jake Paul has claimed a comfortable victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in California on Sunday (AEST), but the fight did little to improve his reputation among boxing purists.
Paul dominated the 10-round cruiserweight fight from the outset, with Chavez Jr only throwing some serious punches late in the fight.
The YouTuber landed 140 punches, while Chavez Jr’s 61 punches were all landed in the last three rounds.
Paul won via unanimous decision (99-91, 97-93, 98-92) to take his pro boxing record to 12-1. The 27-year-old did what he had to do in his first fight since he beat Mike Tyson in November, but the bout did little to silence Paul’s critics given the calibre of Chavez Jr’s performance.
After the fight, Paul called out some big names in the boxing world, but it remains to be seen who he fights next, with reports he will be world ranked in the cruiserweight division following this victory.
The American has made no secret of his attempts to use the Mexican fighter as a stepping stone towards a potential world class ranking with one of boxing’s global associations - something that would open the door for a seemingly-insane world title fight.
