Shot clock: Quickfire guide to setting up your SuperCoach NBL team for round 15

After a slow start to the season, a Phoenix star is back – in a big way. Here’s how to get your team set up for round 15 before Thursday lockout.

Adelaide 36ers run riot in Sydney

A fast game is a good game.

That’s the mantra for SuperCoach for the next four rounds with short turnarounds of only one or two days between one round ending and the next one starting.

The first lockout for round 15 is 7.30pm (AEDT) on January 2, so there’s no time to waste!

Here’s everything you need to know to get the best possible score this week.

ON THE DOUBLE

The schedule is the key to SuperCoach NBL success. Targeting players from teams that play twice in a round will give you twice as many opportunities to score points.

In round 15 there are six teams on the double: Brisbane Bullets, Illawarra Hawks, NZ Breakers, SEM Phoenix, Sydney Kings and Tasmania JackJumpers.

Players from all six teams make for excellent acquisitions this week because all have at least three doubles in a row – thanks to every team being on the double in rounds 16 and 17.

That means this week should be as much about setting yourself up for the biggest two rounds in SuperCoach history as getting some extra points this round.. The Adelaide 36ers have a single this week but hang on to Kendric Davis – he still deliver plenty of points and you will need him next round. Teammate Montrezl Harrell is a different story – could you grab more points overall by jumping sideways to a gun like Xavier Cooks or Jaylen Adams who play six times in the next three rounds to Harrell’s five.

If your starting five is looking strong don’t neglect your bench, where 50 per cent scoring is a key aspect of SuperCoach NBL.

Just ask the coaches who brought in Derrick Walton Jr last round. He was a third guard for most owners but his huge 50-point game delivered an extra 25 to the weekly total. You can still pick him up for almost $80,000 less than his starting price, and he’s on the double for the next three rounds.

If you need to make some fast cash NZ is about to embark on a run of four straight doubles, Matt Mooney is available for $244,000 coming off a 56-point return in a single game round.

And if you missed the news, Breakers star Parker Jackson-Cartwright was suspended for five matches for knocking a referee to the ground – so he has to go.

TRADE IN

1. Derrick Walton Jr (SEM)

2. Xavier Cooks (SYD)

3. Jaylen Adams (SYD)

4. Matt Mooney (NZ)

5. Sam Froling (ILL)

TRADE OUT

1. Parker Jackson-Cartwright (NZ)

2. Montrezl Harrell (ADL)

3. Ben Henshall (PER)

4. Keandre Cook (BRI)

5. Darius Days (ILL)

CAPTAIN CALL

Kendric Davis has become a perma-captain but with the 36ers on a single this week, we need to look elsewhere. The Kings offer the two most reliable big scorers on the double in Xavier Cooks and Jaylen Adams. Sam Froling might not deliver monster scores but he never lets you down, and if you think Derrick Walton Jr is really back, putting the C on him could be a matchwinning play.
