An undermanned Perth Wildcats have handed the Cairns Taipans their seventh straight NBL loss

An undermanned Perth Wildcats have handed the Cairns Taipans their seventh straight NBL loss in an overtime thriller on Saturday night in the Far North.

Ben Simmons: the future is now

CAIRNS made Perth work for it but the Wildcats extended the Taipans losing streak to seven games on Saturday night in a crazy overtime NBL contest.

Perth led by four with just seconds remaining and looked all but home before a clumsy foul from Bryce Cotton on a Melo Trimble triple evened the score with 0.8 seconds left in the game.

Trimble hit the three and after the contact made his free-throw as he evened the scoreline.

Neither club could score in the final 0.8 seconds, despite three different offensive opportunities, two to Perth and one to the hosts.

Both clubs turned the ball over without the ball being touched as all three offensive chances came from the same spot on the court.

Once in the extra period, the Wildcats just pounded the ball inside and their big boys Nick Kay and Tom Jervis were the difference in the end.
