Aaron Nietschke hails from a town of 42 but can’t wait to get started after being drafted by Melbourne

It might be difficult to find his family farm, but you don’t have to look too closely on a footy field to find Aaron Nietschke with Melbourne swooping on the lanky, tall ball-winner on Friday.

IT MIGHT be difficult to find his family farm, but you don’t have to look too closely on a footy field to find Aaron Nietschke.

Nietschke will on Sunday move from a South Australian farming town of 42 people to Melbourne after being plucked by the Demons with pick 53 in the national draft.

The 184cm midfielder was raised on a Hansborough farm, 100km outside Adelaide, surrounded by sheep, wheat, canola and oats.

But the Demons swooped after being convinced he was just as comfortable as a ball magnet being surrounded by traffic in the midfield.

“He’s pretty isolated where he is out on the farm. We got lost on the way out there (to interview him),” Melbourne recruiting manager Jason Taylor said.

“They took us down a dirt road and it was the wrong way, but that was Siri.

“He’s a good, raw-boned country lad. He’s got a big tank, he’s clean and he’s good overhead so we’re pleased to bring him in.”

Nietschke last night said he couldn’t wait to get started.

“I can’t wait to get into it on Monday. I’m rapt,” he said.

“It’s obviously going to be a massive change from being at home on the farm, but a great opportunity as well and it’s exciting to get around a great bunch of people.”

Nietschke grew up not supporting a team, but a player.

“I liked watching Nat Fyfe at Fremantle,” he said.

“Hopefully I can crack into the team at Melbourne.”

Nietschke will be one of five national draft recruits to walk in the door next week, with fellow midfielders Tom Sparrow and James Jordan, and mature-age defender Marty Hore and forward Toby Bedford also picked by the Demons.
