THE PHANTOM’S FORM GUIDE
(Ranked in order of SuperCoach significance in 2020)
Jake Lloyd (DEF $591,400)
A major player in SuperCoach, passing the 100-point mark in 29 of the past 37 home-and-away matches. A safe bet.
Jordan Dawson (DEF, FWD $467,800)
Comes right into calculations this year after averaging 20 disposals and 94 points in the final nine matches of 2019. The 22-year-old is enjoying a terrific preparation and looks capable of even better.
Will Gould (DEF $117,300)
Stepping up a grade is unlikely to affect the strongly-built 18-year-old, who averaged 89 points per game at SANFL level in 2019. Must be included.
Dylan Stephens (MID $189,300)
Impressive runner showed he can match it with the top-weight chances in the SANFL last year and his speed and class would immediately add to the Sydney midfield. Keep in mind, despite elevated price.
Isaac Heeney (FWD, MID $510,700)
A definite threat, again, in 2020, despite the Swans’ ongoing need for him to play forward. Will the development of Will Hayward and Nick Blakey, along with the hopeful return of Lance Franklin, clear his path? Monitor.
Callum Mills (DEF $444,100)
The addition of Gould might – hopefully – aid the 22-year-old’s long-awaited midfield move. Do not dismiss.
Oliver Florent (MID $373,400)
Posted two SuperCoach tons in the final three rounds of last season and looks a big improver in his fourth year.
Dane Rampe (DEF $527,800)
Coming off a career-best campaign, which saw the All-Australian defender average 107 points per game from Round 10 onwards. Must be respected.
Josh Kennedy (MID $579,000)
After falling off the pace in 2018, the 246-game stayer lifted his SuperCoach average from 96 to 106 last year, proving he can still feature prominently.
Luke Parker (MID $570,700)
Coming off best campaign since 2016 last year, after posting SuperCoach tons in 11 of the opening 14 matches. Others might now have stronger claims at the price but keep in mind.
Lance Franklin (FWD $394,200)
After an impressive start to summer, the star forward is now in danger of missing a Round 1 start after knee surgery. Can lead from start to finish on his day and might still come into calculations given the price.
Tom Papley (FWD $425,500)
With more midfield time, the 23-year-old is capable of better than 78-point suggests. But there will be plenty looking to make that run. Consider in SuperCoach Draft.
James Rowbottom (FWD, MID $337,600)
Tallied 24 disposals, 11 contested possessions and 99 points in his fifth career game and will improve on first-up effort. Do not dismiss.
George Hewett (MID $477,600)
Can figure on his day, as three scores of 120 or more in 2019 suggests, but is more of a SuperCoach Draft chance.
Will Hayward (FWD $317,900)
Enjoying a terrific preparation and looks a likely improver in fourth year.
Nick Blakey (FWD $295,800)
Played 21 games in his debut season and looks capable of even better in 2020. Monitor for the future.
Harry Cunningham (DEF $436,200)
Averaged 95 through the opening five games in 2019 but struggled with injury late in the year. May need the outing after limited preparation but he can figure.
Aliir Aliir (DEF $421,100)
Intercept star is a threat on his day in defence but it’s hard to make a case in SuperCoach classic.
Colin O’Riordan (DEF $338,000)
Irish runner showed he can’t be taken lightly, passing the 80-point in the final three matches of 2019. Others have stronger claims, though.
Sam Reid (FWD $426,000)
Played 22 games for the first time in his career in 2019 and posted 10 scores of 80 or more. But he’s hard to trust at the price.
Callum Sinclair (RUCK $396,400)
Battled fitness concerns last year and is unlikely to figure in 2020, despite the price.
Sam Gray (FWD $386,600)
Reliable – and durable – scorer is likely to feature for his new side but lacks the class of others in the field.
MAKING THEIR CASE
Recruit Lewis Taylor (MID $310,200) will be right in the Round 1 mix, as will young tall Tom McCartin (FWD $269,800), who is coming off an encouraging 2019.
Lewis Melican (DEF $284,600), Ben Ronke (FWD $243,900) and Ryan Clarke (MID $309,100) are all great depth, while James Bell (FWD, MID $129,500) will be looking to add to his two career games.
Sam Naismith (RUCK $251,500) should return up some stage and draftee Chad Warner (MID $117,300) might surprise.
