THE PHANTOM’S FORM GUIDE
(Ranked in order of SuperCoach significance in 2020)
Brodie Grundy (RUCK $705,900)
The Collingwood ruckman is a class above, scoring 150 more SuperCoach points than any other player in the competition last year. Must be included.
Adam Treloar (MID $615,800)
Big improver in terms of efficiency over the past two years, increasing his average from 101 to 113, and looks capable of even better in 2020.
Taylor Adams (MID $525,100)
Fitness is still a concern, as it was last year, but a 26-disposal, two-goal, 134-point performance in the qualifying final highlights his credentials. Keep in mind at the price.
Isaac Quaynor (DEF $261,700)
Resuming from a season-ending foot injury, the explosive half-back is a likely improver in his second year. Scored 82 points on debut against the Hawks and might come right into calculations despite elevated price.
Jordan De Goey (FWD $473,800)
Again, a huge threat but role will dictate the consistency of his scoring. Among the major players on his day but monitor his preperation.
Jack Crisp (DEF $482,800)
Struggled to have the same influence in 2019, despite winning more of the ball. But the 26-year-old is still capable of averaging 95 points per game and must be respected.
Scott Pendlebury (MID $566,500)
The 301-game stayer is still running as well as any in the field after 12 more SuperCoach tons last year. Do not dismiss even if others, now, have stronger claims.
Jeremy Howe (DEF $431,900)
After three consecutive campaigns at 91 or more, the high-flyer averaged less than 80 in injury-interrupted 2019. May need the outing but there’s some value here.
Jaidyn Stephenson (FWD $436,200)
Impressive young star bounced back from suspension last year with 102-point performance in the qualifying final – his first senior appearance in more than two months. A huge threat.
Steele Sidebottom (MID $512,000)
Star midfielder posted 10 SuperCoach tons, but also failed to score more than 67 on five occasions, last year. Consider in SuperCoach Draft.
Jamie Elliot (FWD $380,500)
After overcoming fitness concerns, the 27-year-old, proved he must be respected after averaging 105 points in the Magpies final four games of 2019. Price is an issue but can’t be taken lightly.
Tom Langdon (DEF $405,500)
Fitness a concern with a limited preperation but the defender can figure on his day as seven scores of 75 or more in his eight games last year, along with three season averages in excess of 80, suggests.
Darcy Moore (DEF $405,800)
Last year’s value selection can feature prominently on his day but the 23-year-old is hard to recommend at 2020 price.
Brayden Maynard (DEF $433,900)
The reliable defender was impressive in his last start – 124 points in the preliminary final loss - and can figure but is yet to show he can make the jump into the next class.
Callum Brown (FWD $370,900)
A quiet finals series but the 21-year-old made 20 appearances last season and should earn a Round 1 spot. A likely improver in his fourth year.
Tom Phillips (MID $450,500)
Consistent ball-winner failed to build on impressive 2018 campaign last year and is hard to recommend at the price.
Chris Mayne (MID $406,700)
The 217-game veteran can figure in midfield role, as three scores of 123 or more last season suggests, but he’s unlikely to feature in SuperCoach Classic.
Josh Thomas (FWD $338,600)
Posted four SuperCoach tons in 2018 but could only produce one score in the 90s last year. Look elsewhere.
Will Hoskin-Elliot (FWD $382,000)
Important part of the Collingwood side but ignore in SuperCoach.
Brody Mihocek (FWD $390,000)
Disappointing last start – two kicks and 16 points against the Giants – but did score 100 points or more on four occasions last year. Hard to make a case, though.
Mason Cox (FWD $293,600)
Not for SuperCoach.
Jordan Roughead (DEF $352,200)
See above.
MAKING THEIR CASE
Collingwood will be hoping a fit and healthy Dayne Beams (MID $441,700) returns in 2020 but he hasn’t been considered in this best 22. Depending on team balance, Rupert Wills (MID $337,900) and Brayden Sier (MID $242,700) will be pushing hard to take his spot.
Levi Greenwood (DEF $355,500) is also working his way back from a serious knee injury and Travis Varcoe (FWD $319,400) is training with the defenders.
But it’s the summer of rookie-price players Darcy Cameron (RUCK, FWD $123,900), Nathan Murphy (DEF $123,900) and Trent Bianco (DEF $117,300) that SuperCoaches should be watching closely. And mid-season draftee John Noble (DEF $215,400) will, again be right in the Round 1 mix.
