Media Street: Jordan Lewis, Nathan Buckley tapped to fill Nick Riewoldt’s shoes

With Nick Riewoldt putting his media career on hold, Fox Footy has revealed who will replace him in some of the network’s marquee shows.

Fox Footy has looked internally to fill the absence of Nick Riewoldt on its screens for this year.

Former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley will join Garry Lyon and Jonathan Brown as the new panellist on its Monday night television show On the Couch while Jordan Lewis will join the Friday night football coverage as one of the key analysts.

Riewoldt is putting his media career on hold, moving to the United States for 12 months

He has relocated to Houston, Texas, the hometown of his wife Catherine and three young boys James, Will and Teddy in January.

RSN trump radio rivals with star footy signing

The revamped RSN breakfast show under Daniel Harford has landed its first big fish.

Harford and his new producer, former 3AW footy boss Craig Moore, have signed four-time Hawthorn premiership hero Jordan Lewis to be the program’s AFL expert.

Lewis will appear every Monday morning to offer his analysis on the weekend’s AFL round.

It’s a big win for the racing and sports network given Lewis is seen as a rising media star through his impressive work on Fox Footy. He had previously appeared on SEN.

Winner crowned in race to capture sports media grand slam

Forget Novak Djokovic’s pursuit of the tennis grand slam, the race to capture the media’s version is over.

TV reporter Natalie Yoannidis is set to complete the Holy Grail when she moves to Channel 9 in the coming weeks.

The rising star’s career path has seen her spend time at the ABC, Fox Sports, Channel 10 and Channel 7 where she is currently part of the sports team.

Yoannidis was pencilled in to cover Abbey Gelmi’s maternity leave and read the weekend sports bulletin but instead she’s moved up the road to Nine.

She comes in as a replacement for popular reporter Ayrton Woolley who departed the network after 13 years last month.

Yoannidis’ grand slam journey started back in 2015 when she was a freelance journo with the ABC before she moved to Fox Sports in Sydney where she stayed for six years.

A move down to Melbourne saw her read the news at SEN before a 15-month stint at Channel 10. She moved to Seven in May last year.

Prominent scandal spin doctor joins AFL media team

The media manager at the centre of three of the darkest moments in Australian sport has joined the AFL.

Kate Hutchison is probably hoping for a quieter time of things after being unveiled as the latest member of the league’s media and communications team.

During almost six years at Cricket Australia, Hutchison was there for the death of Phillip Hughes and was then front and centre for Sandpapergate in South Africa.

She was in South Africa with the men’s team when the scandal broke and organised the famous confessional press conference where Australian team captain Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft faced the music.

Hutchison left CA a few months after the South African debacle and then started work at Swimming Australia where she again found herself in the middle of a storm.

Shayna Jack’s drug controversy rocked the swimming world after she was sent home from the world championships for failing a drugs test with Hutchison in charge of trying to spin that scandal.

She left Swimming Australia in 2021 after three years.

The AFL hasn’t had a lot of luck filling the key media post which was vacated by Nadine Rabah last year when she left to become Collingwood’s media boss.

Stephanie Jones, a former adviser to Premier Dan Andrews, was hired in the role but only lasted two months.

Then highly regarded North Melbourne media manager Stacey Oates had a last-minute change of heart, accepting the AFL job before reneging after Roos president Sonja Hood pulled out all stops to get her to stay at Arden St.

Hutchison was introduced to the media managers from all 18 AFL clubs who came together in Melbourne on Wednesday for their annual pre-season get together.

AFL 360 goes Greene

Recently crowned GWS Giants captain Toby Greene is a new addition to the AFL 360 desk.

Greene joins a rotation of current stars on the Fox Footy show including Geelong premiership hero Tom Hawkins, Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale, Norm Smith Medallist Christian Petracca and Richmond legend Jack Riewoldt.

The move caps off the one-time bad boy’s makeover given the last thing Greene would have appeared on during the first half of his career was a popular media program.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Fox Footy team on the AFL 360 desk,” Greene said.

“Hopefully the boys go easy on me for the first few rounds – might need to get some tips from Petracca on how to handle Robbo.”
