ROUND 18 AND 19 BREAKDOWN

There’s five rounds to go in the 2025 AFL season and Nick Daicos is closing in on a first Brownlow Medal according to our Code Sports Predictor.

While in round 18 Daicos was behind Gold Coast star pairing Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell – and brother Josh – in the pecking order, round 19 saw the Collingwood champion record a PB 43 disposals against Fremantle.

Maximum votes are by no means a certainty with Caleb Serong and Patrick Voss both putting their hands up in match-winning performances, but Daicos just gets the nod for three.

The chasing pack of Anderson, Serong and Jordan Dawson have added to their tallies but face an uphill battle to bridge the gap of seven votes by the end of the season.

Cat Bailey Smith hasn’t troubled the scorers since round 14 and has fallen to fifth on the leaderboard.

Some big movers over the last two weeks include Tiger Tim Taranto – now sitting inside the top 20 after back-to-back best-on ground performances – as well as Rowell who has moved into equal-seventh spot.

CLUB BY CLUB

There have been some intriguing developments in a few club counts over the past couple of rounds.

While Patrick Cripps still hasn’t recorded a three-vote game in our Brownlow Predictor, he has managed to build a small buffer of four votes on Tom De Koning and George Hewett.

Cripps is in a good spot but there’s still a way to go for the Blues skipper to hang on and lead the Carlton count for the fourth year running.

Over at Essendon, Nic Martin’s injury means Zach Merrett is just about a sure thing to win the Bombers’ count.

Martin was giving his captain a run for his money but an ACL setback unfortunately rules him out for the season.

Zak Butters has caught Connor Rozee at Port Adelaide and now leads their club count, while Harley Reid has made a move with his first votes of the year at West Coast.

Stay tuned for more Brownlow updates as the season continues.
