Russell Crowe’s auction says a lot about divorce

WHERE most Hollywood couples separate with tell-all interviews and wars of words, Dannielle Spencer and Russell Crowe are a testament to calling it a day, writes Miranda Devine.

Russel Crowe auctions 230 movie pieces, raising hundreds of thousands

MOVIE star Russell Crowe outed himself as an excellent father after his “Art of Divorce” auction last weekend.

The auction came five years after his separation from Danielle Spencer, on what would have been their 15th wedding anniversary. On Monday the divorce was finalised.

“The timing was perfect,” Crowe told me. “It made the passage of that have some positive energy rather than being a moment for sadness, because no matter how amicable your separation, if you enter into marriage, from my point of view, you enter into it with a deeply serious perspective and if it fails you can’t help but feel it as … a failure.”

He hasn’t looked for new love out of respect for his sons, aged 14 and 11.

“They’ve been dealing with this since they’ve been nine and six…. I feel overwhelmingly I have a responsibility to have clarity in my life for my kids so I haven’t entered into any serious relationship since I’ve been separated… I can’t put a parade in front of my children. I don’t want them to have to experience me in my dating game.”

Bravo. Few people admit the toll of divorce on their children, or the importance of being unselfish for their benefit.
