Vegans are spreading dangerous ideology that purports humans lives are no more important than any animal. But if they care so much about “vulnerable beings” why are they silent on abortion, asks Miranda Devine.

My inbox was flamed by angry vegans last week after a column decrying animal liberationists who have been terrorising farm families, cutting fences and stealing livestock.

While many vegans are simply soft-hearted animal lovers, “Dominion movement” activists who organised last week’s protests are not.

They are dangerous ideologues who believe human lives are no more important than the lives of sheep or goats.

They have invented a new thought crime, “speciesism” which is discrimination against non-human species.

They claim farmers and pet owners are committing slavery and murder.

At the Melbourne Dominion protest, speakers denounced “violence against the most innocent and vulnerable beings on this planet”.

Fair enough.

But if they care so much about “the most innocent and vulnerable beings” why are they silent on abortion?

If it is so bad to kill ­animals for food, they should explain why it is OK to kill defenceless unborn babies for convenience?
