Brexit: a lovely middle finger to poseur elites

As the Brexit results started to come in, the elites on ABC radio were in full wishful snark and eager to explain how voters were old and uneducated, writes Miranda Devine.

As the Brexit results started to come in on Friday, ABC radio was in full wishful snark.

First up was Gibraltar where 96 per cent voted to “Remain” in the EU, for obvious reasons of self interest, not mentioned on our ABC.

Next was Sunderland, which voted 61 per cent to “Leave”, which our ABC was eager to explain was because voters there were old and uneducated.

Subtle, huh?

Is it any wonder that Brexit was a lovely middle finger to poseur elites who regard anyone who doesn’t share their fashionable views as stupid, uneducated bigots, or just old.

And on cue, the lefties went wild. The hide of those “swivel eyed loons”, as Laurie Oakes described them! What would they know?

Bill Shorten even tried to use Brexit to torpedo our upcoming same sex marriage plebiscite, saying Malcolm Turnbull would suffer the same fate as David Cameron, at the hands of the “hard-right”.

“Brexit proves every lie, every emotion is exploited by the right to thwart rational no brainer outcomes,” thundered leftie commentator Paul Bongiorno on twitter, as ABC journalist Paul Barry dubbed Brexit a “disaster.”

“It’s easier to scare people than elucidate them”, tweeted ABC’s Emma Alberici, ignoring the biggest fear campaign run by the Remain camp which predicted WWIII and economic Armageddon if Britain left the EU.

“Fear is a powerful emotion; xenophobia a primary motivator,” sniffed Tracey Spicer.

“#Brexit proves how dangerous the fear peddled by hyper-conservatives and anti-immigration parties can be,” tweeted Greens MP Sarah Hanson-Young.

How stupid and gullible are the masses without people like this to think for them. So much for democracy.
