Construction has begun on the Gold Coast’s newest hotel.
The first sod has been turned on the $50m Quest Southport, which will be built on a 1012sq m site in Lather St.
The 10-storey project will feature 90 units and a rooftop pool and will be built by global hotel chain The Ascott Limited.
Ascott managing director David Mansfield said it would “redefine luxury accommodation in Southport” and offer “unparalleled comfort and convenience in one of Australia’s most sought-after destinations”.
“The commencement of construction for Quest Southport marks another important milestone in Quest’s push for growth,” he said.
“This project underscores our commitment to expanding our footprint and providing exceptional hospitality experiences.
“Quest Southport will not only contribute to the local economy but also set a new standard for luxury and convenience on the Gold Coast.”
Mr Mansfield said the company’s 2030 growth strategy aimed to reach more than 200 Quest properties and 30 managed hotels by the end of the decade.
“The construction of Quest Southport is a key step towards realising this vision, and we are excited about the opportunities it brings for our guests and the local community,” he said.
Westpoint Constructions and ADCO Constructions have been appointed as builders.
The Gold Coast Bulletin revealed plans for the art deco-inspired hotel in 2022.
The site was formerly occupied by a pair of dilapidated wooden houses and it had been the subject of a previous tower pitch.
In 2016 council approved a 75-unit residential tower and cafe but the project never went ahead.
