Hollywood loves this incredible coastal, seachanger home and now it’s been voted NSW’s best by our readers.

It seems Hollywood doesn’t mind a bit of Australian extremism especially when it comes to our homes

Illawarra’s stunning Headland House featured prominently in 2020’s horror hit Invisible Man starring Elisabeth Moss and it has now been voted NSW favourite home of 2022 by our readers.

Headland House’s futuristic appearance and appeal perfectly suited the remake of HG Wells’ famous sci-fit tome. It also fits in perfectly in the beautiful yet brutal at times South Coast landscape.

The House plays a leading role in the early scenes of the futuristic flick as Moss’ character Cecilia Kass escapes from the home she shares with her violent and controlling partner Adrian Griffin.

It helps to set the scene for a terrifying science fiction journey, an aesthetic that also appears to appeal to plenty of us in Sydney and regional NSW.

The $5 million home took out the top honour at the 2019 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards.

“I was lucky enough to grow up in Terrigal and North Avoca. Surfing every day after school and bush walking through the local angophora and sandstone cliffs has inspired my work,” architect Andy Carson said of the home he created.

The four bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom Headland House is connected by three pavilions, wrapped around a protected courtyard. 180-degree views and breathtaking scenery called for a respectful celebration of the location. Instead of providing the same view throughout the house, the design creates considered framed glimpses of what lies outside.

Meanwhile, a storm-viewing room pays tribute to the drama of extreme weather fronts creeping up from the ocean.

The spectacular home has even piqued the interest of major international brands like Porsche, Gucci and Mini, which have all used it as a backdrop for campaign shoots.

While Kensington’s Zig Zag House was named as No. 1 on our list of NSW Top 50 Homes for 2022, Headland House was the readers favourite.
