Gold Coast housing prices skyrocket

The giant Gold Coast penthouse which was the home of a leading Australian business tycoon has sold for more than $5.1 million.

The two-storey unit sitting on the 33rd and 34 levels of Main Beach’s famous The Inlet tower was owned by the late Doug Kefford, who died in 2020.

Mr Kefford owned and operated the Victorian bus company Kefford Corporation until its sale in 2009 and was a long-time director of the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame.

The penthouse, which was snapped up by a Queensland family downsizing from a house to a unit, was sold by prominent real estate agent Lucy Cole.

“They are delighted with their new sky home, with the lady of the house shedding a few tears of happiness at the pre-settlement inspection,’’ she said.

“It was exactly what the family had long looked for.

“It’s exceptionally elegant and spacious. It includes a substantial walk-in dressing room, which features glass sliding doors opening onto a private balcony.”

It is the latest in a series of high-profile unit sales in the past 18 months.

In April, a jaw-dropping “hyper luxury” unit in a three-storey Burleigh Heads sold for record-shattering $20m.

A cashed-up interstate buyer snapped up the 970 sqm, two-level penthouse inside Burleigh Hill’s Glasshouse building on Goodwin Terrace.

A US-based couple in May 2021 paid $8.15m for a two-storey penthouse in S & S Projects’ Awaken Residences luxury tower, which is being built at Point Danger on the former cafe Dbar site.

Weeks later the penthouse of Surfers Paradise’s Soul supertower sold for $15.25m to Culture Kings co-founder Tah-nee Beard.
