THE list is as long as it is important for Sydney to remain the best city in the world.

The Daily Telegraph’s Project Sydney Action Plan outlines the key improvements to infrastructure, jobs, transport, health, housing affordability and law enforcement that need to be implemented to prepare our city for a better future.

Here is the Project Sydney Action Plan:

JOBS

► Set targets to bring down the western Sydney youth jobless rate — which is as high as 13.2% in Parramatta

► Mandate more work experience programs at senior school/uni level and in depth careers advice that advice includes vocational education.

► Sponsor partnerships between local employers and schools to hire graduates as interns

► Appoint a NSW Minister for Youth with a government department focusing on youth unemployment and reinstate the Federal Youth Minister

► Boost entry level public service jobs at state and federal level

EDUCATION

► Establish the New Schools and Classrooms Fund to meet demand from new homes and the growing population in NSW

► Pledge to ensure access to parks and playing fields for high rise high schools

► Boost Maths teacher levels

► Fund preschool education so it is free for parents like it is in other states

► Set up an apprenticeship mentorship scheme to deal with sky high dropout rates

► Replace all school demountables with air conditioned bricks and mortar classrooms

► Shade cloths for every school playground

BIG INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

► Expedite Badgerys Creek and schedule real construction in the next four years

► Provide a public plan for roads, schools and parks with all future housing announcements

► A fair go for toll roads users from the Hills and the West

► Commit to the Western Harbour road crossing and Spit Tunnel projects and outline funding and a construction completion date before 2023.

► Announce funding for a M6/F6 Motorway south of Sydney and a project completion date

► Announce and start building an alternative Sydney port for large cruise ships

► Commit to the Prospect Highway upgrade including widening the road to four lanes and bridges across the M4 motorway and Great Western Highway.

► Provide a firm timeline on when the M9 Orbital motorway will be built

TRANSPORT

► Light rail: extend the link from Carlingford to Epping, and commit to an iron-clad timeline for Parramatta to Olympic Park.

► Draw up a commuter parking urgent priority list — with North West rail link stations and new estates at The Ponds and Stanhope Gardens and Campbelltown at the top.

► Publish plans for the Badgerys Airport rail line (state). Pledge funding from the new National Rail Fund (federal)

► Provide more carriages on the Blue Mountains line

► Build a North-south rail link

HEALTH

► Deliver on the Baird government’s promise to fund a hospital at Rouse Hill

► Western and Inner Western Sydney hospitals fund to upgrade Fairfield, Bankstown, Canterbury, Concord and improve nurse to patient ratios

► More after-hours medical centres to take pressure off hospitals

► Plan to tackle childhood and teenage obesity including unlocking school playgrounds for after-hours activities

► Prioritise the tick borne diseases crisis in the northern beaches.

► Funding to improve Campbelltown hospital adolescent mental health ward

HOUSING AFFORDABILITY

► Cut planning red tape to streamline approvals and green light the 20,000 new homes needed in Parramatta caught up in local and state planning agencies.

► Help for essential workers so nurses can live near hospitals and teachers near schools

► Overhaul social housing so there are fewer single occupants in houses with multiple rooms

► Offer rebates to households for installing water tanks, solar panels and home batteries.

► Extend First Home Buyers Grant to second homes not just new builds

► Stamp duty concessions or extend the first home buyers grant for aspiring homeowners purchasing existing homes

SPORT & LIFESTYLE

► Back our 10 million steps campaign to get Sydneysiders out and about in June

► Extend the federal Sporting Schools program or earmark funding for school sport**

► Elevate Sydney to Australia’s number one destination for international sport, arts and cultural events.

► We want the federal government to match local sponsorship of community sport to help cover registration, equipment, insurance costs

► Set up Childcare closer to where people work

► Prioritise the NBN in spots along the Hawkesbury River and in bushland suburbs (eg Asquith/Mt Colah/Mt Kuring-gai/Berowra).

► Publish plan for Sydney rubbish and waste as western Sydney landfills near closure

LAW AND ORDER

► Expand government programs to address radicalisation in schools

► Fund school education to warn young people about the dangers of drugs like ice and cocaine

► Create a task force devoted to solving the domestic violence crisis in the West

► Address community safety fears post Lindt and in the current climate of terrorism

► State/local government to reduce homelessness around Sydney’s Central station

GO WEST

► Commit to a timeline for moving the entire Powerhouse Museum to its CBD.

► Include Western Sydney in the driverless and smart bus pilot

► Include Parramatta in the Vivid Festival

► Funding for non profits to teach English to migrants and integrate asylum seekers who settle in the region

► Funding for the “Westacon” science and tech centre and tourist drawcard at Werrington

► Set up a Western Sydney Arts Fund to support the Youth orchestra, Fairfield’s powerhouse youth theatre, Riverside theatre, redevelop Campbelltown arts centre and an outdoor concert venue for Parramatta Park
