Boots key to spotting fearless twins on footy field

Pink and blue boots set Georgia and Katie Edwards apart to help coaches and team mates identify who’s who when the twins are confusing their opponents on rugby league fields.

The 12 year olds relish playing footy and if you’ve heard them answering questions in unison, it’s obvious the sisters make a formidable combination playing in the Brothers Club 13-15 years team.

In previous seasons the twins have played with the mixed boys and girls Brothers teams but this season they’ve joined up with the all girls team.

The boots are the sign of which twin is which during matches.

“We love playing rugby league,” said Katie who wears the pink boots. “At first the boys from the other teams thought they could easily get by us but we proved them wrong.”

The twin’s brother and coach, Jack Edwards, said his sisters loved the game and always tried to improve their technique.

Katie and Georgia sport different coloured footwear.

“They listen to their big brother,” he said. “Georgia watches all the NRL games while Katie is not that much into NRL - she just enjoys playing and getting into the game. During training I keep them apart because they talk too much but in an actual game they work well and support and coach each other.”

Kingswood High School girls rugby league coach Kellie McNamara said the twins showed their ruthless brilliance when they played in their open team.

“Georgia and Katie are fearless and game savvy,” she said, adding the twins would take on and tackle the biggest girls.

The twins are fearless competitors.
