Penrith Brothers player Shawn Blore has been named one of the best young rugby league players in the country, selected in the under-15s Australian Schoolboys.
The 14-year-old, from Lethbridge Park, worked his way through various trials to be picked for the Sydney West squad, then the Sydney Gold squad and finally the NSW side to play at the recent under-15 championships.
“We lost the grand final against Queensland which was sad but at the end of the state championships they picked the Australian squad,” Shawn said.
“As they picked the 13-man squad they went through the numbers and I was the last guy picked. I was so happy, I trained so hard and didn’t think I would make it.”
Although there is no game for the under-15s side, selection is something Shawn will look back on his whole life.

Having started playing with the Penrith Brothers aged five, Shawn said he had his dad and manager to thank for his success so far.
“My family is a rugby league family and my dad got me into it,” he said. “He’s the one who has kept pushing me, he ran me up that hill when I started.
“I love scoring tries, running and going through people and hearing the crowd screaming your name, that feeling is great.”
The young utility or second-rower got his first taste of rep footy in Year 6 and has since moved up the ranks in Penrith.
“I played for the Penrith development side in 2013, then made the Penrith Harold Matts train-on squad in 2014 and played in the season this year.
“I was playing up an age which was pretty scary but I scored four tries, and getting my first one felt so good. I have worked so hard.”
Shawn received the Coach’s Award for his performance in the Harold Matthews and is looking forward to the next season. Playing in the NRL is also in his sights.
