Two extra storeys approved for Bondi Junction tower
The site of an old florist and funeral home in Bondi Junction is going up — even higher than first planned — as the suburb’s reputation as a developer’s playground continues.

A planning panel has approved a request to add two more storeys to the redevelopment of an old funeral home in Bondi Junction, so the developer can put in extra apartments.
Waverley Local Planning Panel on Wednesday approved an application from Walter Carter Pty Ltd, which is developing a new tower at 292-302 Oxford St to add another two stories to the already approved project.
It will mean the apartment block, dubbed the Oxford Residences, will now rise to 14 stories instead of 12, and increase its proposed 48 apartments to 55.
The development will also now have a sixth level in its underground carpark to fit in 13 more cars, three motorcycles and eight bicycles than originally proposed.
Consent was also asked to change the layout of apartments to replace two three-bedroom apartments with two one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom apartments on level 12.
It will have retail space at the ground floor fronting Oxford St, and a commercial tenancy on its first floor.
Previously the home of Walter Carter Funerals, the site is currently under construction. The funeral company decided to redevelop the site when it moved operations to Bronte Rd in Waverley.
It is bordered by an eight-storey mixed development to the west and a 14-storey mix-used development to its east.
“This part of Bondi Junction is undergoing change whereby existing two storey terrace style shops are being replaced with large mixed use buildings responding to the up-zone of the land under the Bondi Junction LEP 2010,” a report to the planning panel stated.
The panel voted unanimously in favour of the application.
