Construction is winding up on Green Square’s Infinity tower, a $575 million building that has become the talk of Sydney.

The 20-storey project is Crown Group’s “most iconic” development, according to director of hotels and suites Wayne Taranto, who said it would be a landmark for the city’s “evolving corridor” between Mascot and the CBD.

Work is set to be complete in May, before residents and hotel guests move into the 90-room Sky Suites hotel and 326 residential apartments situated on Bourke St, Zetland from mid-year.

“I think it’s probably the most referenced new development in Sydney,” Mr Taranto said.

“It’s just the style of the building, the shape is obviously very unique.”

The sweeping design from Japan’s Koichi Takada Architects, dubbed a “landscape tower”, had led to some to question whether it was viable to build when unveiled in 2013.

Infinity will include Crown Group’s third Sky Suites offering in Sydney, a luxury-style “urban resort” hotel that tailors its services to guests — down to choosing the firmness of their mattresses.

Up to 20 commercial outlets including a supermarket will be located at the site, which are due to be announced imminently.

It is part of a $13 billion redevelopment of the Green Square precinct in south Sydney, which has transformed the site from a warehouse district into a residential hub.

Green Square station is located around the corner from Infinity, making the building the ideal location for visitors to Sydney and CBD workers alike, Mr Taranto said.

“In the past (airport passengers) would flow straight into the city,” he said.

“The Green Square location … we’re seeing that becoming the evolving corridor of Sydney.”
