A trainer at one of Sydney’s leading boxing fitness gyms will fight allegations he stalked or intimidated a woman in the eastern suburbs last year.

Sam Maree, of Potts Point, did not appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday after he was charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend and domestic violence related stalk or intimidate with the intention of causing fear of physical or mental harm.

On the same day, his lawyer formally entered not guilty pleas on his client’s behalf.

Court documents state the 31-year-old allegedly used a carriage service, “namely SMS/voice-call in such a way that a reasonable person would regard that use as being menacing, harassing or offensive” at 2pm on November 6 last year in Potts Point.

Maree is also alleged to have stalked or intimidated the woman, at the same time, “with the intention of causing” her fear of physical or mental harm.

The court heard on Wednesday the matter was originally set for an apprehended domestic violence order (AVO), which Maree will fight in a hearing in August.

The man’s lawyer asked Magistrate David Covington for the two charges to be defended on the same day, saying he expected the hearing to take “two hours max”.

The request was ultimately granted and Maree is expected to defend the AVO and charges on August 21.

In Maree’s Instagram bio, it says he is a trainer at Hustle Boxing which boasts almost 12k followers on the app and has gyms in Potts Point and Newtown.

On his profile on the gym’s website, Maree is described as being the “founding trainer” a “superstar” and a “people person”.

“He’s the launcher and leader of our epic trainers,” the profile said.
