A man charged with murder amid an investigation into the suspicious death of popular northern beaches surfer Guy Haymes will remain behind bars on remand, with his lawyer telling the court he is yet to receive his medication.

Jayson Brett Dal Molin, 41, did not appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday after he was charged with murder, two counts of taking or detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage, and taking or detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage occasioning actual bodily harm. No pleas have been entered.

It comes after police, on Thursday, issued a new appeal for public assistance as they investigate the suspicious death of a man on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Back on February 27, police were called to a unit on Pittwater Rd in Manly in February where they received reports that Guy Haymes had been assaulted.

Paramedics arrived to find the 59-year-old with serious head injuries. He was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital in critical condition.

Guy Haymes died 15 days later in hospital.

Detectives with the assistance of the homicide squad formed Strike Force Flat in March to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and Guy’s subsequent death.

Following inquiries, a 41-year-old man was arrested about 7pm on Saturday in Greenacre.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged and refused police bail.

Police allege in court documents that Dal Molin murdered Guy Haymes on February 27 between 1.30pm and 5.56pm.

The documents also allege he detained Mr Haymes with the intention of obtaining an advantage of $50 and occasioned actual bodily harm.

Dal Molin is also alleged to have detained two other men with the intention of obtaining an advantage of $50 on the same day.

His lawyer told the court on Sunday her client was not required to appear via video link before saying he hadn’t received his medication for his ADHD, bipolar, anxiety and depression.

Magistrate Chris McRobert adjourned the matter to Downing Centre Local Court on August 15.

A FRESH APPEAL FOR INFORMATION

Guy – who was known to his friends as ‘Creature’ – was a high-profile surfer, well known in surfing communities in and around Sydney, including in the northern beaches and Wollongong.

He also had ties to communities in Hurstville.

On Thursday, Detective Superintendent Patrick Sharkey said detectives had conducted extensive inquiries but were now appealing for more information from members of the public.

“We are reaching out for assistance from the community as we continue to investigate this for Guy’s family, Det Supt Sharkey said.

“We know there are people out there who have information about this assault. We need those people to come forward.

“My detectives will not stop until we have those answers.”

Det Supt Sharkey said he hoped everyone in the extended community would share their appeal for information.

“Guy’s family have been left without answers and I need the community to help in providing those answers,” he said at the time.

Guy’s brother, Mark Haymes echoed Supt Sharkey’s appeal on Thursday, saying his family has been left in shock and without answers.

“Guy was fun-loving and sociable, and he got along with everyone,” Mark said.

“Our whole family is shocked and in disbelief that he had his life cut short – and in such a brutal way.

“Not knowing what happened that day and not having the answers is the hardest part.

“It was tragic and we can’t imagine that anyone would want to hurt him.

“If anyone out there has any information, please come forward as our whole family needs closure.”

Guy’s father, John Haymes said in a Facebook post earlier this year that the months since his death have been “extremely stressful.”

“As I’m sure you will understand that the past three months have been extremely stressful for Val, I and the family,” he posted on Facebook in May.

“Once it became murder the entire situation be came a lot of very unfortunate circumstances over the ensuing months.

“We definitely want to give Guy the send off he deserves.”

Anyone with more information is being urged to come forward.
