The horrific driving record of former jailbird Rodney Adler has been revealed after his latest motoring misdemeanours landed him back before the courts.
The 61-year-old Vaucluse man, who gained notoriety for his role in the collapse of insurance giant HIH which led him being jailed, was busted driving a black Porsche SUV while unlicensed in Sydney’s CBD.
When he came to police attention on William St about 10am on June 3, he was also using a mobile phone to have a conversation on loudspeaker. He pleaded guilty to both offences in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.
The court heard of Adler’s shameful driving record, which included ten tickets in the last 18 months, which led to his licence being disqualified for three months in January.

The Vaucluse man’s downfall was his need for speed, losing his licence after hitting speeds 30km/h above the speed limit in June and October last year, the court heard.
Adler’s lawyer, who first conceded his client’s “terrible” driving record, told Magistrate Carolyn Huntsman that Adler believed he had served his suspension in April and had attended the RMS in April to restore his licence, however it ultimately didn’t take place.
The process was complicated due to RMS licence appeals and court-elected infringement appeals which saw Adler confused about his licence status, the court heard.
The agreed police facts state the notorious businessman pulled out a letter to prove his disqualification period had expired, however police officers politely pointed out the paragraph stating he had to renew his licence after following the disqualification.
Magistrate Carolyn Huntsman labelled the 61-year-old’s traffic record as “shocking” and told him he has “got to stop speeding”.
The charge of driving on a cancelled licence was dismissed but Adler was convicted and fined $500 for using a mobile phone while driving.
