A glamorous northern beaches drug dealer caught with 19 bags of cocaine in her bra and undies near Darling Harbour lied to police, claiming her customer was a work friend, a court has heard.

Mel Mezoghlian, of Warriewood, was watched on by police when driving a Suzuki Swift on Wheat Rd, near Darling Harbour’s entertainment precinct, about 4.40pm on Friday, November 22 when the car pulled over and a “work friend” entered.

The 28-year-old drove forward 20m and stopped, where the person left the car.

Police officers pulled over Mezoghlian, described in the agreed police facts as appearing nervous with a “breaking voice and trembling hands”.

The woman told police the person who just left the car was a work friend who owed $400.

When police asked what her friend’s name was, however, she couldn’t answer.

The buyer was located by other police officers and confessed to buying a bag of cocaine for $300, with the same amount of money later found in a Louis Vuitton purse inside Mezoghlian’s car.

Police searched the car and found nothing, but a later strip search revealed a total of three plastic bags in her underwear, including two bags in her bra. Inside the bags were 19 small resealable bags of cocaine, weighing about 10g.

The court heard the northern beaches woman, who pleaded guilty to two charges of drug supply, had a troubled past plagued by drug use and abusive ex-partners. At the time of the drug dealing, Mezoghlian was serving a community corrections order for affray on her ex-partner.

Her lawyer said the 28-year-old was genuinely remorseful, was undertaking drug counselling, was in a supportive relationship and there was a good chance she wouldn’t reoffend.

Magistrate Jane Price said it was clear Mezoghlian was a “street-dealer” with easy access to cocaine but accepted the criminal activities were unsophisticated.

The woman was convicted and sentenced to a 12-month Intensive Corrections Order.
